Gear Engineer, Princ

We are looking for a Gear Engineer to join our Shelby team!

As our Gear Engineer you will, develop mechanical electromechanical hydromechanical geared actuation design solutions for commercial and military aircraft flight control and utility actuation applications. In response to customer and internal requirements, develop concepts and design details for gearing including offset, simple and compound planetary, bevel, and worm gearsets. Perform and document detailed analysis and design of high strength gearing and splines, and support gear related production, assembly and test activities. Act as technical authority on gear related matters within department and business unit.

Location: Shelby, NC

Salary: $131,000 to $189,200

Your Challenge

  • Analyze, design, and document aerospace equipment gearing and splines using AGMA and custom developed methods to target low weight, high strength and long life, optimized for aerospace actuation equipment applications
  • Perform strength, durability and fatigue analysis to develop gear and gear tooth details for gearset types including offset and compound, bevels, worms and wheels, and simple and compound planetaries including for both spur and helical type gears, and provide documentation for design reviews and stress reports
  • Provide all spline and gear details for use on engineering production drawings for gears and splines including tolerances and inspection data such as lead, profile, and crowning charts, and gauge and master gear details
  • Perform stress and fatigue analysis on related mechanical gearbox parts and equipment (shafts,
    bearings, housings, etc.) including static stress, vibration and shock, deflection, and life using ANSYS finite element and classical methods
  • Work within product development and production teams to support equipment mechanical design and development from initial proposal through qualification and into production
  • Work closely with manufacturing engineers on gear production initiatives and manufacturing process development and issue resolution

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
  • 12+ years of experience
  • Strong background and experience designing gearing and related gearbox
    equipment for aerospace applications. Experience with aerospace and
    AGMA gear and spline design standards. Experience in stress analysis
    using ANSYS finite element and classical methods. Strong analytical and
    problem solving skills. Strong interpersonal and team skills. Experience
    with NX for design and analysis tools such as MathCad and MS Office
    tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with aerospace mechanical actuation equipment design and
    development including flight controls and utility applications. Experience
    with using Matlab for programming more complex gear analysis routines
    and methods.
