FWS potential: Undergraduate Research Assistant (Student Wage)

UVA’s Arctic Research Center is seeking an undergraduate research assistant to support social science research about ethical practices of collaborative research with Indigenous communities. The research team works closely with community partners in Utqiagvik, Alaska, in the SNOWPAC project funded by the UVA Environmental Institute.

This position is primarily remote with weekly check-ins with Prof. Caitlin Wylie and other team members. Specific activities may include: 

• Transcribing and analyzing oral history interviews about infrastructure and urban development in Utqiagvik, AK
• Collating information from research permits to build a dataset about research policy
• Conducting and visualizing social network analysis of our research team and community partners 
• Contributing to communication materials associated with project reports and public outreach, such as webpage content and public exhibit design

This position is paid $15 hourly and will be no more than 10 hours/per week. Applicants must: 

• Be an undergraduate student currently enrolled full-time at UVA 

Applicants should: 

• Be familiar with the principles of social science research 
• Be proficient with cloud storage for collaboratively writing documents

This position is open to being a Federal Work Study position.
