FWS potential: Undergraduate Research Assistant (Student Wage)

Charlottesville, VA Part time

The University of Virginia’s chapter of the national Public Interest Technology University Network (PIT UN) steering committee is seeking an undergraduate research assistant to support the development and implementation of the committee’s goals for the 2025-2026 academic year. This position is primarily remote with weekly, scheduled check-ins with the co-chairs of the steering committee, Caitlin Wylie (Engineering) and Jon Kropko (Data Science).

This position is open to being a FWS position.

Specific activities may include: 

  • Conduct a census of PIT projects within UVA by searching faculty, center, institute and departmental websites 
  • Support the creation of a dataset to enable research on determinants of success in PIT 
  • Identify a list of journals for submission on best practices in PIT 
  • Create and distribute a monthly newsletter 
  • Identify content from multiple sources for inclusion on the UVA PIT UN website and newsletter 
  • Update and maintain the PIT UN website 
  • Provide occasional staffing of PIT UN events including tabling and logistics 
  • Contribute to the development of presentations and research related to PIT UN activities 

This position is paid $18 hourly and will be no more than 10 hours/per week. Applicants must: 

  • Be an undergraduate student currently enrolled full-time at UVA 

Applicants should: 

  • Be proficient with cloud storage for collaboratively writing documents  
  • Have experience in communications 
  • Be familiar with the principles of research
