Job Information

Job Summary:

Assists the Electrical Services function by providing fixture maintenance, in addition to providing support on the various energy conservation projects throughout the University.

Responsibilities:

  • Changes/replaces tube ends, lamps, lenses and clips.

  • Cleans lamps, bulbs and lenses.

  • Helps introduce new employees to shop protocol, procedures and campus applications and equipment.

  • Requisitions materials and supplies using in-house procedures as needed. Keeps working area safe and clean.

  • Uses computers to enter and access job-related information.

  • Wears and/or uses appropriate safety equipment.

  • Undertakes training related to job duties as deemed necessary by the University.

  • Performs related job duties as may be assigned.

Competencies:

  • Access computer programs and use or learn basic computer operations related to position requirements. 

  • Read and interpret documents.

  • Write routine reports.

  • Communicate effectively in English both written and verbally.

  • Perform mathematical functions relevant to the position.

  • Solve problems.

Additional Responsibilities

Education, Experience, or Certifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED, from an accredited institution, required.

Experience:

  • Two years of experience or an equivalent combination of job related coursework and experience, required.

Certifications:

  • Current valid driver's license and passing the University of Chicago, Motor Vehicle Records check process is required.

  • Other licenses or certificates needed for this position as required by law, changes in the law or other regulatory agency requirements, required.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

  • Familiarity with Chicago electrical code requirements, preferred.

  • Job-related training programs, preferred.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate mechanical aptitude, manual dexterity, and be physically capable of strenuous activity over extended periods of time.

  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, move loads appropriate to job requirements, and be able to bend and work in a kneeling position for long periods of time.

  • Must be able to climb stairs/ladders, be capable of working at heights as required, be able to enter and work within tight spaces, and be able to withstand hot and cold temperatures.

Pay Range:

  • $16.58 per hour
