Reporting directly to the Associate Director of Residential Education, the Fixed Term Residence Hall Director, contributes to this mission by sharing in the comprehensive development and management of the on-campus residential education program for approximately 2,500 residents.
POSITION/ROLE OVERVIEW
Depending on the residence hall assignment, the Fixed Term Residence Hall Director will oversee a residential community of approximately 200-700 students. The Fixed Term Residence Hall Director assists with all aspects of the on-campus experience, including the implementation of the residential curriculum, supervision of student staff, student behavior, departmental operations, and other duties. This is a full-time, fixed-term position, ending on May 31, 2026. There may be an opportunity for extension based on departmental needs and individual performance.
The role is live-in and includes on-call responsibilities, evening and weekend support for activities, and collaboration with a team of Residence Hall Directors across campus to deliver a comprehensive residential experience for students.
CORE CAPABILITIES, PRIMARY DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Residential Curriculum
Advise and support students concerning issues of academic success, identity and interpersonal development, and self-authorship.
Student Behavior
Serve in an on-call rotation and respond to student incidents as needed.
Serve as a hearing officer to adjudicate varying levels of alleged policy violations.
Mediate roommate conflicts as they arise in the residential community.
Advise students with personal concerns, or refer them to other appropriate campus resources for assistance.
Departmental Operations
Coordinate the completion of various administrative tasks within the residential community, including but not limited to, room condition reports, damage billing, health and safety inspections, mail, work orders, room changes, census rosters, etc.
Collaborate with Campus Safety, Facilities, CleanTech, and IT Services to ensure students have an environment that is conducive for student learning and success.
Facilitate operational aspects of residence hall openings and closings.
Participate in weekly department-wide staff meetings and one-on-ones with supervisor.
Assist with departmental operations which includes but isn’t limited to, Student Staff Selection, Student Staff Training, Assessment, Residential Curriculum, Recognition, Operations & Website, and Student Leadership.
Other Assigned Duties
Assist with university initiatives, including but not limited to: Fall/Spring Orientation, Open House, Admitted Student Days, Block Party, Family Weekend, Commencement, Grad Week, etc.
Participate in occasional evening and weekend work.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree.
Previous experience in Housing and Residential Life or in Student Affairs.
Understanding of student development theory, including demonstrated experience with student development and community engagement.
Knowledge of student behavioral interventions, including conflict resolution, safety initiatives, and civility education.
Demonstrated crisis management skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking.
Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills, including sensitivity to cultural differences and working in diverse populations.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
WORK MODE
On Campus - This position is primarily in-person and is based on campus to support effective in-person collaboration and engagement.
Hybrid work arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis, depending on the nature of the role and operational needs. Any such arrangement must be discussed and approved in advance by the appropriate division lead or their designee. #LI-ONSITE
SALARY RANGE
$56,867.50 + the value of housing
