Join the Johnson Controls team as a Fitter Welder Apprentice at our San Antonio, TX plant. This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain hands-on experience in the manufacturing industry. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals while developing essential skills in fit up, fabrication and welding.
What you will do
You will be responsible for the local delivery and execution of the fit up, fabrication and core welding to vendors and managers in accordance with Johnson Controls principles, corporate policies and procedures, and plant operations. You will perform a variety of employment related functions for the ultimate purpose of enhancing employee engagement, safety and health, productivity and ensuring employee compliance with Company policies in a manufacturing facility.
How you will do it
Fitter Welder Apprentice will have the ability to apply minimum of 6 months of MIG welding experience into product.
Operate Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun. Successfully apply fit up, fabricate, and weld discipline into standard models.
Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding)and Plasma Cutter.
Operate manual and semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment.
Maintain safe work practices.
Conduct technical inspections.
Prepare input for various management and log reports.
Read and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair/rework techniques.
Complete motor coupling installations
Participate in training program as trainee/trainer as required.
Practice and promote 5S throughout facility.
Participate in Kaizen events.
Other assigned work as required.
What we look for
Have successfully passed 2G plate welding test and 6G short arc pipe welding test within Johnson Controls - San Antonio
The use of various hand tools, machinery and equipment will be required to manufacture metal
Standard blueprint knowledge
This position will work with supervisors and leadman to ensure continuous improvements in work cells, hitting quotas, welding according to pre-set parameters using GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding processes
The ability to scan in and out of work orders is a must
Proven knowledge and skill in operating all metalworking machinery
Ability to read and understand production drawings, blueprints, work orders and other written instructions
Required:
Minimum of 6 months of MIG Alloy and Steel welding experience
Follow Operation Description Sheet (ODS) and Training Documents
High School Diploma, GED or certifications

Welding technical school certification
GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) welding experience
Tig welding experience

Able to work well under pressure
Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always
