Propulsion Systems is recruiting for a First Operator to join its team at the Bacchus (Magna), Utah facility.
Duties, Expectations and Essential Functions:
Primary assignment is in the NG Binder Premix area performing activities and tasks associated with the handling and movement of acid and other ingredients pertaining to nitroglycerin manufacturing.
Area specific essential functions, responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:
• Able to work in the NG and Binder area performing tasks associated with the production of Nitroglycerin (NG) and Binder Premix.
• Able to safely handle and perform all manual hands-on activities involving energetic NG and Nitro Cellulose (NC).
• Must be able to don, and work in all types of conditions/environments while wearing, special acid handling PPE.
• Able to safely use lift trucks, hand tools, and remotely operated equipment.
• Must be able to read, comprehend and follow written instructions and assist in the training of operators new to the area.
• Must be able to pass all Quality Assurance MTI (manufacturing to inspect) requirements skill based training and all other training requirements associated with the NG Binder work assignment and to ensure said requirements are maintained.
• Must be able to process and apply basic math functions to ensure appropriate amounts of ingredients are used.
First Operator essential functions and expectations include, but are not limited to:
• Accountable to conduct and/or lead the training of new and lower classification operators through on-the-job coaching and mentoring. Responsible to ensure trainee’s and junior employees follow procedures.
• Effectively and constructively communicate with all levels of personnel including customers, leadership, coworkers, and support team members
• Actively engage in and lead or promote PES improvement activities, process/procedure improvements, standard work instructions and the global improvement of Operations
• Be an advocate for our safety culture. Engage, promote and lead our teams in SIS activities, hazard abatements, OP-E, Take Two, etc.
• Demonstrate the initiative and ability to become knowledgeable and proficient in all area processes and support all levels of hands-on operations
• Guide and positively influence coworkers and others to enhance the safety, quality, cost and scheduling of their team
• Assists leadership in making job assignments and achieving performance standards
• Other duties as assigned by leadership
Basic Qualifications:
• High School diploma or GED (education will be verified).
• 5 years (or more) of previous experience with Chemical Handling
• Must be a US citizen.
• Able to acquire and maintain Employee Possessor (EP) status under the Safe Explosives Act (SEA).
• Currently possess or able to obtain a government security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Prefer candidates with some post high school education.
• Able to wear a respirator and pass the FIT testing.
• Able to pass and maintain Manufacturing-To-Inspect (MTI) certifications.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments and assorted hand tools. - Able to work a physically demanding day (stand for long periods; work from your knees; ascend and descend ladders; lift, bend, twist, push and pull up to 50 lb, etc) while wearing protective equipment (respirator, coveralls, gloves, eye and ear protection, etc).
• Prefer experience with the safe handling of hazardous materials, operating industrial equipment such as cranes, forklifts and hand tools. Job function may require handling of live propellant related materials.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license
