About this opportunity:

The Upstream Financial Accounting & Analysis Conventional Capital Accounting team is seeking a highly motivated individual who thrives in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This role offers the opportunity to partner with members across Finance, Accounting and the broader organization. The Conventional Capital Accounting team acts as a strategic finance partner supporting Conventional asset development, capital and innovation projects, Upstream Decommissioning Liabilities and Conventional Acquisitions & Divestitures (A&D).

This position will play a key role in providing financial stewardship for Conventional Capital projects by ensuring accurate recording, analysis and reporting of expenditures. Core responsibilities include advising on accounting treatment, managing accruals, tracking project activities and performing variance analysis. The Financial Analyst role may also provide support in related areas such as Upstream Decommissioning Liabilities and Conventional A&D.

What you’ll do:

  • Ensure accurate governance and stewardship of Conventional Capital financial reporting, maintaining compliance with internal policies and accounting standards.

  • Provide guidance on appropriate accounting treatment, including distinguishing between capital and operating expenses to support informed business decisions.

  • Collaborate with business teams to set up and review cost centers, work breakdown structures (WBS) and steward workflows, ensuring accurate project tracking and reporting.

  • Prepare, review and analyze monthly capital accruals, journal entries and account reconciliations for timely and accurate financial records.

  • Review financial records for accuracy and completeness, identifying and resolving discrepancies as needed.

  • Perform monthly cost and variance analysis, providing clear explanations for spending trends and variances against budget and forecast.  

  • Support monthly performance management reporting, delivering insights on projects and capital performance.

  • Provide detailed information to financial statement preparers for areas of accountability and assist with quarterly financial statement reviews.

  • Collaborate with tax, joint venture and audit teams to respond to inquiries, support audits for compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.

  • Draft quarterly accounting memos to document accounting decisions.

Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada

  • CPA designation required.

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in financial or management accounting with strong knowledge of financial and accounting practices, including IFRS.

  • Experience in the Oil & Gas industry is considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of SAP and a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems and processes is considered an asset.
