The Financial Aid Advisor III (FAA III) is a key member of the Office of Financial Aid, responsible for counseling and providing financial aid and scholarship information to both prospective and currently enrolled students, as well as their families. The FAA III facilitates workshops, develops and delivers presentations on and off campus to various groups regarding financial aid and scholarships, and plays a critical role in student default prevention. This position serves as a resource for both students and staff, ensuring compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations.
Responsibilities:
Advise and counsel students, parents, and prospective students to help solve educational financial problems through scholarships, loans, grants, employment, and financial guidance.
Provide support in-person and via written, phone, and email communications.
Offer loan and indebtedness counseling on both individual and group bases.
Participate in student default management and prevention initiatives, assisting the institution in managing cohort default rates.
Support outreach staff in engaging prospective students and assisting with their transition to current students.
Review student files, collect supporting documentation, and make necessary adjustments.
Award, revise, and/or approve financial aid according to program policies and guidelines.
Address compliance issues and process corrections via mainframe or Electronic Data Exchange (EDE).
Evaluate Satisfactory Academic Progress appeals, determine their validity, and outline steps for students to regain eligibility for financial aid or scholarships.
Serve as a regularly scheduled advisor and assist at the front counter in the Enrollment Service Area.
Greet visitors, answer inquiries about federal financial aid forms, records, procedures, and policies.
Conduct on- and off-campus presentations, seminars, and workshops for students—especially high school audiences—and for professional development purposes.
Represent the department at resource tables for TAMU groups and prospective student events.
Contribute to the review, revision, and interpretation of complex rules, regulations, procedures, and policies related to financial aid, scholarships, and team specialty areas.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
Assist in developing and revising financial aid consumer information materials, publications, and brochures for students, parents, colleges, departments, and university use.
Help plan and execute special events for targeted audiences and in support of departmental initiatives.
May coordinate or serve as a resource for specialized financial aid programs as assigned.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education or experience.
Three (3) years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Comprehensive knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, and related rules and regulations.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Exceptional customer service skills.
Familiarity with ERP student systems.
Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
Strong organizational skills and sound decision-making abilities.
Additional Information: The Financial Aid Advisor III is expected to demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to student success. This position may require occasional evening or weekend work to support outreach and special event activities.
