About the Role: 

Reporting to the Executive Director, Brock Sports and Recreation, the incumbent implements budgeting and financial record-keeping procedures to ensure efficient coordination of different services and programs within Brock Sports & Recreation (BSR). 

The Financial Accounting Officer maintains accurate information regarding the financial status of the cost centers, advises the leadership team regarding financial decisions, assists the immediate supervisor and the cost centre’s department heads with allotment and expense projections, and prepares a variety of operational and financial reports and spreadsheets.   

 

The Financial Accounting Officer will:  

  • Assist with implementing budgeting systems and financial records which are compatible with the University's accounting and reporting systems; 

  • Monitor expenses by receiving, processing and verifying purchases by processing and reviewing purchase orders, invoices, credit card charges, deposits and payments; 

  • Reconcile payments through POS program registrations through Active Net and Ticketmaster; 

  • Interpret University financial reports and advise the cost centre lead regarding financial decisions by providing accurate information regarding the financial status of individual accounts and the cost centre as a whole; 

  • Assist the leadership team with annual budgeting and financial planning by providing allocation and expense actuals and projections; 

  • Ensure the financial integrity of departmental, grant, and designated budgets by monitoring balances and expenditures regularly and providing financial reports to the leadership team monthly; 

  • Liaise between the BSR and the University’s Financial and People and Culture Services on financial matters such as budget submission and clarification of financial and budgetary policies and procedures; 

  • Assist the leadership team by coordinating the purchase of supplies including office supplies, and equipment by identifying prospective vendors, obtaining cost estimates, selecting equipment and related vendors, serving as a liaison between the cost center and various departments, and overseeing the purchasing process; 

  • Process invoices from external stakeholder for service agreements;  

  • Assist with billing and financial transactions with Brock Sports Medicine staff for service reimbursements and external practitioner billing;  

  • Record and track all donations and sponsorships for Brock Sports & Recreation for entry into Raiser’s Edge; 

  • Prepare and issue invoices to donors and sponsors in support of sponsorship commitments;   

  • Support special projects as assigned by the Executive Director (i.e., remain current through self-directed learning, gather information, coordinating and communicating with various departments, following through with projects to completion, develop professional contacts with colleagues, attend professional development courses, etc.). 

 

Key Skills and Experience: 

  • College Diploma in a relevant discipline. The equivalent combination of education and experience would be considered.  

  • Experience working in a financial administration or accounting position;  

  • Knowledge of sports and an understanding of multi-sport operations including travel and equipment purchasing;  

  • Ability to remain competent and current through self-directed professional reading; 

  • Ability to maintain a high levels of accuracy and excellent attention to detail; 

  • Strong capabilities in Microsoft Office, efficient in Excel; 

  • Financial computer system knowledge;  

  • Promotes and embodies inclusivity and respect within the workplace and the broader community;  

  • Ability to cooperatively develop and share ideas regarding departmental initiatives and projects; 

  • Excellent communication skills and is an active listener/learner; 

  • Strong professional demeanor and customer service skills; 

  • Superior interpersonal skills including tact, discretion and confidentiality;  

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, in a supportive and collaborative manner;  

  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to identify problems with financial records, spot errors and devise out of the box solutions; 

  • Ability to develop new procedures and/or recommend policies;  

  • Ability to handle high volumes of work while multi-tasking. 

 

Preferred or Asset Skills:  

  • Experience working in a multi-sport environment.  

 

Salary and Total Rewards:  

  • Job Grade K, Salary Scale ($61,289-$99,384); 

  • Target Hiring Range: $61,289-$70,000 

  • This is a permanent position that includes

*The final salary is based on experience, internal equity, and budget considerations within the target hiring range.
