We are looking for a Financial Accountant - Consolidation to join our Consolidation Team within our Finance Function on a full time, permanent basis. The role will be based from our Doxford office, Sunderland.
This role will support the management of the group consolidations, working alongside existing team members and being a CCH Tagetik expert for subsidiary finance teams across our countries.
Direct responsibilities:
As a Financial Accountant your primary role will support the management of Group consolidations, working alongside existing financial accountants in the team and the Consolidation Finance Manager, and become a CCH Tagetik expert to support our businesses. This includes (but not limited to) on a monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, annual or ad-hoc basis:
• Issuing consolidation timetables, including instructions to Business/Operating unit finance teams;
• Coordination of data uploads relating to Group financials and notes disclosures;
• Supporting the Arriva businesses with queries and problems in data uploads and account mapping, including training;
• Intercompany eliminations and resolving discrepancies with the Arriva businesses;
• Equity accounting for Associates/JVs and Non-controlling interests (NCI) adjustments;
• Acquisition (IFRS 3) or Disposal/Held-for-sale (IFRS 5) adjustments;
• Maintenance of accurate scope of consolidation and ownership/investment registers;
• Preparation of accounting entries for capital structure changes and mergers/liquidations of Group companies;
• Supporting Arriva businesses’ Lease (IFRS 16) submissions for actuals, forecasts/budget and provision of IFRS 16 movement reports to external auditors;
• Review of the Arriva consolidations and ensuring consolidation adjustments are working as they should;
• Liaison with external auditors on year end consolidation outputs and adjustments and preparation of related audit schedules to support external audit;
• Balance Sheet reviews; and
• Posting consolidation journals for group month end and forecasts, budgets and business plans.
Other responsibilities include:
• Submission of pension scheme information for Arriva defined benefit schemes to the
Group’s actuary.
• Ad-hoc support on Finance projects (e.g. Chart of Accounts, System changes)
• At times stand in for the Consolidation Finance Manager
Knowledge, skills and experience:
• Experience of consolidation in a similar role as a s qualified Accountant
(ACA/ACCA/CIMA).
• A highly motivated individual who works well independently and has a proactive approach to tackling problems and finding solutions working with wider Finance, Treasury and Tax colleagues.
• Good background knowledge of IFRS and consolidation accounting, comfortable dealing with senior finance (including Finance Directors) stakeholders.
• Prior experience working with CCH Tagetik is desirable but is not required (training will be provided).
• Knowledge/experience of defined benefit pension scheme accounting is desirable.
• Excellent people skills with ability to build relationships with various stakeholders and being organised, with strong planning skills.
• Ability to prioritise work and deliver to tight deadlines on a timely basis in a busy working environment.
• Good proficiency working with Office 365 applications.
