Job Description:

The Department of Science, Technology, & Mathematics seeks a full-time non-tenure-track, pre-tenure-track or tenure-track faculty member to join the Information Technology program.  Candidates with professional-level work experience in the IT field in addition to demonstrated potential for competency in teaching, research, and service are highly desirable.   Fluency in American Sign Language at time of appointment is highly desirable, but not required. Applicants who are not fluent must be willing to learn. Rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications. Position is contingent on funding.

Responsibilities

  • Teach IT courses on multiple topics, including, but not limited to, the following: hardware and software support, information security, databases, networking, or human-computer interaction.
  • Engage in scholarship/research in the IT field, including grant-funded research for pre-tenure-track or tenure-track positions.
  • Advise and mentor students in the IT major.
  • Provide mentored undergraduate research experiences or summer bridge programs.
  • Participate in department and university faculty activities and professional service.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field for pre-tenure-track or tenure-track position; or a master’s degree in information technology, computer science, accessible human-centered computing, or a closely related field for non-tenure-track position.
  • Documented content knowledge in a range of areas including hardware and software support, information security, databases, networking, or human-computer interaction.
  • A record of or potential for outstanding teaching, scholarship, and a commitment to service.
  • Prior work experience as an IT professional is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language is highly desirable. Applicants who are not fluent must be willing to learn and attend training during the summer. 
  • Candidates must demonstrate strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.

*    To be considered for tenure at Gallaudet University, a candidate must possess a terminal degree; applicants who lack a terminal degree (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) may be required to spend up to three years in a pre-tenure track position prior to being awarded a tenure-track position.
