Working in close partnership with the Executive Dean and as a key member of the Faculty Executive Team, the Faculty Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership to ensure the effective and efficient management of the Faculty.

The Role

As Faculty Executive Director (FED), you will be the general manager and strategic business leader for Macquarie Business School (MQBS). Working in close partnership with the Executive Dean and other executive group colleagues, you will provide expert advice on the leadership and execution of Faculty operations, financial and resource planning, strategic initiatives, risk management, infrastructure and facilities, and policy development, and ensure the efficient, effective, and productive overall management of the Faculty. 

A key member of both the Faculty Executive Team and the University’s Senior Leaders’ Forum, the Faculty Executive Director plays a pivotal role in aligning the School’s strategic goals with University priorities—collaborating with peers across education, research, finance, people and culture, operations, and strategy portfolios.

This is a high-impact, senior leadership position that demands commercial acumen, strategic foresight, and the ability to engage and influence across a complex and fast-evolving higher education environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to deliver the Faculty’s goals and priorities
  • Partner with the Executive Dean and Faculty Leadership Team to develop and implement business, financial, and workforce strategies
  • Lead professional services teams across education, research, operations, engagement, and business activity
  • Oversee the Faculty’s budget, infrastructure, and operational performance
  • Collaborate across central university portfolios to deliver integrated and efficient services
  • Contribute to the University’s broader strategic planning and continuous improvement agenda

You are an accomplished, forward-thinking leader with a track record of success in strategic management, operational leadership, and organisational transformation. You can utilise your outstanding commercial and leadership skills to enable the Faculty and its staff to realise their full potential and deliver excellence across professional and academic activity. You bring the credibility, confidence, and collaborative spirit to work alongside senior academic and professional leaders in driving performance and delivering tangible impact.

You will also demonstrate (Selection Criteria):

  • Qualifications and/or extensive successful leadership experience in relevant contexts
  • Proven experience in strategic planning and operational delivery within complex or matrixed organisations
  • Strong financial and resource management skills, including oversight of large-scale budgets
  • A track record of success in developing, implementing and evaluating strategic initiatives
  • Expertise in leading high-performing teams and fostering a culture of service, excellence, and inclusion
  • Superior interpersonal, influencing, and communication capabilities to navigate diverse and complex stakeholder environments
  • A track record of collaboration and consultation, staff engagement and leading change
  • Experience and deep understanding of key strategic issues, opportunities and challenges in the higher education sector
