As an Exercise Physiologist, you will develop individualized exercise prescriptions and oversee exercise progression for patients with cardiovascular disease in a rehabilitative setting. In collaboration with the Outpatient Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation teams, you will assess patients’ fitness levels, design customized exercise programs to enhance health and provide education on behavior modification to manage or prevent chronic conditions. This role supports Cleveland Clinic’s mission and vision by providing high-quality, patient-centered care that enhances the health and well-being of individuals with heart conditions. A caregiver in this position works days varying between 7:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with rotating Saturday shifts occurring every 8 weeks for 4 hours.

Caregivers in this role have the opportunity to work at Fairview Hospital, Wellness Center and Richard E Jacobs Family Health Center.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide patient testing before and after rehabilitation, including strength, body composition, flexibility, balance and endurance.  

  • Provide exercise prescriptions for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen.  

  • Update exercise prescriptions according to patient response.  

  • Implement concepts of cardiac secondary prevention.  

  • Recognize contraindications to exercise and abnormal patient responses to exercise.  

  • Appropriately respond to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.  

  • Provide exercise information to patients, peers and the community through public speaking and education classes.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in an exercise-related field  

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: 

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross within 90 days of hire

  • American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist (CEP)

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time and ability to help patients stand and walk.

  • Will require some lifting, bending, twisting of upper extremity to help limited patients.

  • Must be able to adapt to different room temperatures in exercise.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
