As a key member of the Human Health (HH) Ethics and Compliance Leadership Team, the Executive Director serves as a trusted partner and active participant in the strategic and tactical business decisions of the Sales and Marketing organizations for various business units, as well as several enterprise support teams, and is tasked with understanding the legal and practical implications of the Global Human Health (GHH) Compliance Plan.

The Executive Director demonstrates and is recognized for having both subject matter expertise in the relevant guidance, policies, codes, and regulations, as well as a thorough understanding of HH business needs, strategic objectives, and operational practices. The Executive Director applies this expertise in advising and counseling clients on new issues and assisting in the assessment and implementation of new activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understanding the legal and practical implications of the HH – US Compliance Plan.

  • Plan, draft and finalize executive-ready reports and presentations addressing compliance activities, risks and remediation activities, including assessments of risks and strategic decisions related thereto.

  • Presentations to Senior Management on a variety of compliance matters.

  • Compliance support to Sales, Marketing, and enterprise support organizations and the compliance point for leader of those organizations.

  • Counseling commercial leaders in the brand, customer marketing, and commercial support functions in the management of the risks inherent in their business operations and in embedding compliance into the culture of a healthy and engaged organization.

  • Leading the assigned team in the pro-active support of their clients’ effective execution of business practices by partnering with them in setting and consulting on policies, promoting compliant behaviors, supporting corrective action, and maintaining appropriate documentation. 

  • Overseeing compliance advice regarding specified activities related to approved products and therapeutic areas.

  • Encouraging and guiding the team’s close collaboration with therapeutic-area-aligned Commercial Compliance Officers, Region and Country Compliance Officers, the HH Ethics and Compliance team, and COE client areas to ensure effective development and implementation of HQ-driven and cross-regional marketing and scientific leadership practices.

  • Working to build strong teams and talent within the compliance organization.

Education:

  • BA/BS required; advanced degree in business, law or policy preferred 

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 15+ years legal experience (5+ years pharmaceutical industry) or 15+ years of business experience (5+ years pharmaceutical industry)

  • Strong written and oral communications skills

  • Knowledge and understanding of laws, regulations, and policies guiding the conduct of business practices within Human Health and the pharmaceutical industry

  • Strong leadership skills, ability to build collaborative relationships with stakeholders

  • Familiarity with Sales, Medical Affairs, and Marketing organizations and activities

  • Experience with the development or execution of written policies and guidance

  • Presentation experience in individual or group situations

  • Demonstrated ability to successfully negotiate and work with senior leaders, Office of General Counsel and external regulatory agencies

  • Ability to problem-solve complex issues

  • Ability to apply knowledge to real world situations

  • Ability to translate and communicate complex concepts clearly

  • Strong judgment and decision-making skills related to compliance related topics

  • Experience leading and developing teams

U.S. Hybrid Work Model

Effective September 5, 2023, employees in office-based positions in the U.S. will be working a Hybrid work consisting of three total days on-site per week, Monday - Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence.This Hybrid work model does not apply to, and daily in-person attendance is required for, field-based positions; facility-based, manufacturing-based, or research-based positions where the work to be performed is located at a Company site; positions covered by a collective-bargaining agreement (unless the agreement provides for hybrid work); or any other position for which the Company has determined the job requirements cannot be reasonably met working remotely. The salary range for this role is

$227,300.00 - $357,900.00

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, government requirements, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate will be eligible for annual bonus and long-term incentive, if applicable.
