Executive Director, Caremark Marketing Strategy

Position Summary:

The Executive Director will report to the AVP of Caremark Marketing and lead a team of marketing strategists. In this key leadership role, you will shape and execute audience-driven product and experience marketing strategies for the CVS Caremark Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) business, delivering measurable results that advance organizational goals.

You will define strategies that balance short-term objectives with long-term growth, leveraging expertise across digital, sales, and emerging channels. Using customer experience insights, you’ll transform data into actionable marketing plans that resonate with diverse audiences.

The ideal candidate brings extensive B2B and B2C marketing experience, a deep understanding of member needs, and insight into employer and health plan purchasing challenges. Strong relationship management skills and a proven ability to lead and motivate high-performing teams are essential. A proactive, self-driven approach and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment are critical for success. This role offers broad organizational exposure and frequent engagement with senior leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire a team of marketing strategists, setting clear expectations, fostering professional growth, and promoting diverse perspectives to build a high-performing team.

  • Prioritize product needs and allocate resources for maximum strategic impact, while strengthening cross-functional partnerships. Create a flexible 1–2-year roadmap that evolves with market shifts and business needs, allowing for timely adjustments and strategic pivots.

  • Drive marketing plan development to increase awareness and adoption of PBM products across B2C and B2B audiences, including payors and members.

  • Align marketing initiatives with business priorities and brand strategy, championing a digital-first approach through innovative positioning, compelling narratives, and optimized channel mix.

  • Monitor market trends and anticipate opportunities and risks to enhance performance and exceed organizational goals.

  • Oversee measurement and optimization of marketing programs, using insights to improve campaign effectiveness and secure resources during annual planning.

Qualifications:  

The candidate will have a strong work ethic, be a self-starter, and be able to be highly productive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company’s business, as well as significant interaction with all the business leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:

  • 15+ years of experience in B2B/B2C marketing.

  • Demonstrated success as a strong leader with a track record of developing talent and building high-performing teams. 

  • Prior PBM/healthcare experience (or other complex, regulated industry) strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of payors/PBM industry, competitive landscape, and market challenges.

  • Knowledge of how to leverage product portfolios, channels, and go-to-market approaches to achieve business results.

  • Self-starter with a strong work ethic and ability to thrive in a dynamic, collaborative environment. 

  • Superior relationship management and communication skills. 

  • Skilled in inspiring, collaborating with, and influencing business partners.

  • Ability to navigate and succeed in a highly matrixed organization.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.

  • Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills. Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including sharing ideas and information across diverse audiences and creating compelling presentations.

  • Strong performance accountability, both in terms of following through on commitments and deadlines.

  • Strategic and analytical thinker, with superior problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate the details while keeping in mind the strategy in place.

  • Solid quantitative skills coupled with broad business acumen.

  • Development of segmentation and marketing strategies based on insights and data.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of digital tools, marketing technology, and tactics

  • Experience in advertising, digital solutions delivery, and/or emerging media.

Travel: Up to 15%

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$131,500.00 - $303,195.00


This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls.  The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors.  This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.  This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
