Events and Community Manager

San Francisco, US Full-time

Hello, we’re Instrumentl.

We’re a mission-driven startup helping the nonprofit sector to drive impact, and we’re well on our way to becoming the #1 most-loved grant discovery and management tool. To help us get there, we’re hiring an intellectually curious Events & Community Manager to expand our event programs, designing educational experiences that will inspire and connect thousands of nonprofit professionals.

Is your zone of genius at the intersection of education, storytelling, and community? Do you love making your ideas come to life? If so, we have the perfect opportunity for you.

About us:

Instrumentl is a hypergrowth YC-backed startup with over 5,000 nonprofit clients, from local homeless shelters to larger organizations like the San Diego Zoo and the University of Alaska. We are building the future of fundraising automation, helping nonprofits to discover, track, and manage grants efficiently through our SaaS platform.

Our charts are dramatically up-and-to-the-right 📈 — we’re cash flow positive and doubling year-over-year, with customers who love us (NPS is 65+ and Ellis PMF survey is 60+). Join us on this rocket ship!

About the role:

As an Events & Community Manager at Instrumentl, you’ll lead, scale, and evolve our events and community engagement programs, expanding our audience and elevating Instrumentl's brand authority across the nonprofit sector.

This is a high-visibility, high-impact role: you’ll be the public face of our programming and the creative force behind it. From workshops and conferences to partnerships and community initiatives, you’ll have the freedom to experiment, test bold ideas, and shape Instrumentl's presence as a trusted voice in the grants management space.

You’ll work closely with the Growth & Marketing team to create experiences that translate directly into engagement and demand. Our ideal colleague is someone who thinks strategically, thrives in collaborative environments, and takes every opportunity to improve existing processes.

What you'll get to do:

  • Lead and scale Instrumentl’s flagship educational workshop series , serving thousands of nonprofit attendees and growing our reputation as the go-to resource for grant professionals.
  • Design and host virtual and in-person experiences (workshops, summits, conferences, and community gatherings) that educate, inspire, and build long-term audience trust.

  • Experiment and innovate with new event formats, community programs, and partnerships that deepen engagement and expand reach.
  • Plan and manage an annual conference calendar , overseeing logistics, budgets, and brand presence to support Sales and Growth objectives.
  • Build relationships with speakers, influencers, community leaders, nonprofits, and B2B partners to increase our impact and credibility.
  • Drive promotion and reach by collaborating with the Growth team on marketing campaigns, partnerships, and cross-channel initiatives.

What we're looking for:

  • 3-6+ years of work experience: you've held roles in program management, education, or development in the nonprofit/higher education sectors.
  • Event leadership at scale : you’ve planned and hosted large-scale virtual or in-person events end-to-end, ensuring a seamless run of show and fostering meaningful engagement.
  • Education and content design : you know how to develop high-quality educational materials that are visually engaging, combining strong instructional value with on-brand design.
  • Confidence in communication : you speak the nonprofit language fluently, build relationships easily, and feel comfortable leading presentations and programs for hundreds of attendees.
  • Experimentation : you’re curious, test ideas often, and iterate quickly to improve results and discover what resonates with grant professionals.
  • Strong sense of ownership : you thrive when given autonomy, anticipate needs, and take full accountability for outcomes.
  • Fast, reliable execution : you maintain high quality standards while moving quickly and juggling multiple priorities.
  • Tech-savvy : you’re comfortable using tools like Zoom, G Suite, Slack, and Canva to streamline processes.
  • Growth mindset: you’re a self-motivated learner, and you welcome the chance to exchange constructive feedback with colleagues.
  • Passion: you’re excited about Instrumentl’s mission to propel nonprofits into a bigger, brighter future!
  • Bonus : you have an especially strong background in grants, fundraising, or community education.
