As the European Public Policy Director – EU, you’ll be our voice and our clients’ lead advocate, as you help to influence the EU public policy, legislation and regulation that affects how our clients invest for their financial futures. Whether our clients are retail clients planning for retirement or intermediaries providing financial advice, you’ll be leading Vanguard to stay abreast of and develop positions on EU public policy matters that materially impact the investment environment.

This role within the European Public Policy team, part of a wider Global Public Policy team that manages policymaker relationships for the Vanguard Group, offers the unique opportunity to engage directly with policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders across the EU on key issues impacting investors.

In this role you will be a key ambassador for Vanguard’s European business by:

  • Leading the development of Vanguard's official position on EU public policy matters.
  • Leading the development and execution of Vanguard’s public policy engagement strategy and objectives in respect of EU public policy.
  • Being the lead ambassador for Vanguard and its clients in respect of EU public policy matters, advancing their interests with policymakers and regulators.
  • Briefing and supporting Vanguard’s most senior leaders in their interactions with high-profile regulators, politicians and civil servants.
  • Helping Vanguard and its clients understand the impact of forthcoming EU regulatory change, through political, legislative and regulatory analysis.
  • Developing mutually beneficial relationships with the trade associations that Vanguard is a member of, the policy consultants it instructs and peer asset/wealth management firms.
  • Maintaining an extensive network of internal and external stakeholders.

What it takes..

You’ll need to:

  • be able to demonstrate your commitment and alignment to Vanguard’s mission of taking a stand for all investors, treating them fairly and giving them the best chance of investment success.
  • have a relevant undergraduate degree (e.g. Politics; Law; Economics) or equivalent experience.
  • proven related senior experience, (e.g. financial services or professional services industry; politics; government administration).
  • have excellent political and financial services acumen and a detailed understanding of how policymaking and the financial services industry works.
  • have excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills that command the respect of business partners, leaders and external partners.
  • have proficient language skills

Special Factors

  • Location - we are open to candidates who are based in the EU or London.
  • The role will require regular travel throughout the EU.
