Equipment Mechanic, Cart

Westchester Campus Full time
Responsible for the maintenance and operation of the university vehicle and transportation assets. Provide assistance to the Supervisor of Fleet Services with the service requirements, general oversight, and logistical support required to safely maintain university vehicles.

Position Specific Accountabilities:

1. Assist with timely vehicle and equipment repairs, preventative maintenance, and daily service schedules required to support the transportation requirements of every LMU entity on the Westchester Campus.

2. Service all carts, vehicles and equipment based on a fixed preventative maintenance program. Respond to work orders provided by Supervisor.

3. Ensure carts, vehicles and equipment are effectively and safely repaired and returned to clients in a timely fashion. Follow all internal shop standards set by Supervisor. This includes removing and “red-tagging” pieces of equipment or vehicles that are unsafe to operate at the moment.

4. Ensure all required safety regulations applicable to Transportation Services are being observed and practiced by all Transportation Services Team Members.

5. Advise and coordinate vehicle and equipment rentals for all FM Service Sections engaged in special projects, renovations, or required for special event support.

6. Assist the Supervisor with maintaining an up to date and accurate inventory of LMU vehicle assets. Advise on capital equipment requiring replacement or upgrading.

7. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requisite Qualifications:

  • Typically a high school diploma or equivalent.  Completion of technical or trade school or on-the-job training in grounds equipment, maintenance and repair is preferred. Incumbent will be expected to continue upgrading knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to keep abreast of regulation/policy changes.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience working with small engines or carts and vehicles. Experience in equipment maintenance would also be a plus (various mowers, tractors, and spray equipment).

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot problems with electric or gas powered carts and an understanding of how batteries are run in series. Working knowledge of hydraulics brake systems and reading wiring schematics.

  • Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral)

  • Requires valid California driver's license. Must maintain a “satisfactory” driving record as evidenced by DMV.

Salary range

$25.87 - $32.31 Salary commensurate with education and experience.
