Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health (ESOH) Specialist

Purpose: Responsible for the safety and health compliance of all on-site contract activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

  • Regularly inspects work environments to identify potential hazards and ensures compliance with safety regulations.
  • Develops/revises Work Instructions (WIs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), for all EHS elements.
  • Identifies required training for employees in relevant safety concepts, performs and documents training.
  • Conducts investigations of safety and health incidents to determine root causes(s) and recommend corrective actions.
  • Tracks and trends safety and health program performance data.
  • Assists shops with identifying proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety-related equipment.
  • Monitors the medical surveillance program for the site.
  • Strives to continuously improve the project’s safety and health culture.
  • Assists environmental personnel when necessary to include performing environmental inspections and conducting environmental release investigations.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains a daily timesheet and daily manning report and ensure correct times are accurate.
  • Ensures strict compliance with safety practices and support the Safety Policies and Procedures.
  • Instills a safety-first mentality within respective work areas and a culture that achieves low accident rates and minimal lost-time injuries.
  • Adheres to ISO Policies, Procedures, and Work Instructions in support of Quality Management System.
  • Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Education:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • Three years of experience in environmental, safety, and health or equivalent field; military setting is preferred but not required.
  • Must obtain Safety Trained Supervisor (STS) certification within six months of hire for the position.

Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent computer, interpersonal, oral and written communication skills required. Computer skills    include a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Work closely with various departments to address safety concerns and ensure that safety standards are met across the organization.
  • Working knowledge of EHS training practices, metrics, and programs
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations
  • Ability to understand, collate and interpret EHS metrics and prepare reports and presentations according to company needs.
  • Must have a working knowledge of required safety management system automation.
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Safety Management Systems. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current First aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training are highly preferred.
  • Industrial hygiene and radiation safety a plus, but not mandatory.

Certification, License & Clearance:

  • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background check and security clearance.
  • Travel may also be required.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain all base access security requirements.

Facility credentials/authorization required:

Must be able to obtain and maintain facility and credential /authorization:

Note- US Citizenship is required for facility credential/authorization at this work location.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

  • Ability to perform job duties efficiently and effectively.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work in extreme environmental conditions including dust and high temperatures.
  • Must be able to endure long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions.
  • When performing work, responsible for adhering to environmental, safety, and health standards related to the activity, including the wearing of all Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
