Job Summary:
 

This position is responsible for technical management and technical authority within the Digital Platform Operations team, working with other experts in this domain. The Digital Platform Operations team consists of Enterprise Hosting, Experts and Project Managers who collectively provide tools and services which enable Customer Experience and Product Development teams to support their services in a standardized manner.

The team supports Product Development by developing infrastructure, focusing on automation for manual actions needed to run and deploy a service, monitoring platform and service reliability, and providing feedback on development architecture.  

The team supports Customer Experience by providing tools to monitor services, correct in field issues, and collect data needed to perform root cause analysis.

Main Responsibilities: 

This position requires a strong technical leadership and expertise, capable of collaborating with the HO of Enterprise Hosting to set a vision and direction for the platform which can deliver world class operational excellence and supporting and developing a team which can focus on services that scale with high reliability. This position also requires extensive collaboration with Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects, Customer Experience, Finance and other NAVBLUE and Airbus teams.

The expert group responsibility spans both legacy systems and new cloud deployments, with a focus on cloud (AWS) infrastructure for all new development.  As an expert, you will be interacting with enterprise hosting teams in charge of operating the platforms, with Software factory teams in charge of developing the solutions hosted on the platforms, with portfolio teams in charge of defining the product roadmap. You will be contributing to various roles:

Specialist and Technical Authority:

  • Setting Best Practices, responsible for defining and enforcing technical standards, methodologies and best practices in your area to ensure consistency, quality and efficiency across the organization.
  • Quality Assurance, playing a role in the final review of projects, products and services to ensure they meet the highest standards of quality and technical integrity.
  • Solving High-Stakes Problems, providing specialized knowledge to diagnose and fix issues quickly for critical systems failures and technical roadblocks on Projects.
  • Contributing to Crisis cells, and providing support to operational teams

Mentor and Knowledge Sharer, nurturing talent and spreading knowledge

  • Driving Innovation, by staying current with latest advancements, and identifying opportunities in technologies and tools that can give NAVBLUE a competitive advantage.
  • Strategic Planning by providing input during strategic planning sessions, helping leaders understand the technical feasibility and potential impact of new projects and/or business directions.

Innovator and Strategic Advisor, looking forward for organization long-term success

  • Mentorship, Training & Development, leading internal training sessions and workshops.  Mentoring key individuals in one-on-one interactions for personalized guidance.
  • Creating Documentation that is clear and accessible such as technical guides, manuals and internal wikis to capture their knowledge and make it available to everyone in the organization
  • Risk Management by identifying potential technical risks and vulnerabilities that may not be apparent to others, helping the organization to proactively mitigate them.

As a member of the expert group, the above could include:

  • Application Monitoring Support
  • Design monitoring and alerting tools and configurations
  • Promote and advocate internally the importance and use of monitoring of infrastructure, application and user monitoring
  • Support the development and customer experience teams by providing input to the priority of concerns and the collecting of information needed to correct issues
  • Support and guidance of technical teams during times for troubleshooting 
  • Identify, and socialize to Product and SWF teams those products that require improvement and are underperforming within the production environment.

Platform Design & Socialization

  • Ensure that platform requirements are collected from stakeholders and appropriately documented for use by the team to meet stakeholder requirements
  • Share and promote the platform details across all NAVBLUE teams
  • Advocate for and advance automation tools to support push button deployment and correction of our services

Cloud Computing Leadership

  • Technology Radar for Cloud Hosting services
  • Continual learning on best practices and changes to cloud platform (ie. AWS)
  • Understands costs associated with the platform to provide recommendations for either short or long term platform changes which will improve profitability for the company
  • Review Cloud plans and provide feedback and technical recommendations to product development platform and technology to help enable optimal performance and manage costs plans 

Additional Duties

  • FinOPS participation to help understand areas of improvement
  • Run the business prioritization 
  • Special projects assigned including researching improvements of our hosting posture
  • Help manage the non-functional requirements for SWF as relate to hosting, troubleshooting and other areas

Qualified Experience/Skills/Training:  

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent experience

Experience: 

  • Solid understanding of computer networks and security
  • Proven experience on the field of platforms operations
  • 5+ years of experience managing production environments within an organization, capable of understanding its impact on stakeholders to help drive necessary improvements to support them
  • Strong technical background from both application development and infrastructure perspective

Licensure/Certifications:

  • AWS Certifications an asset
  • Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities & Competencies:
  • High level of organization, sufficient to enable the Team to effectively execute tasks
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Experience in the aviation industry an asset
  • Ability to drive for results
  • Self-starter who can drive future platform changes
  • Deals well with ambiguous/undefined problems; ability to think abstractly

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):
