ENGL 279 (CRN 2493 – 3 credits) Introduction to Film History

Course schedule: January 5 to April 14, 2026 – Tuesdays & Thursdays, 2:35 pm – 3:55 pm

Course description: An introduction to key historical moments, cinematic movements, formal styles, as well as historiographical and theoretical debates in the history of world cinema.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs): Applicants must have a PhD in Film Studies. Demonstrated research and teaching excellence in the area of global cinema with an emphasis on non-anglophone traditions.

Description du cours: Une introduction aux moments historiques clés, aux mouvements cinématographiques, aux styles formels, ainsi qu'aux débats historiographiques et théoriques dans l'histoire du cinéma mondial.

Exigences de qualification pour l’enseignement (EQE): Les candidats doivent posséder un doctorat en études cinématographiques. Une excellence avérée en recherche et en enseignement dans le domaine du cinéma mondial, avec un accent sur les traditions non anglophones.
