This position is approved to hire for Engineering Technologist I / II based on the successful candidate's qualifications and suitability to the role.
The position will report in-person out of Fort Mill, SC, with occasional support expected throughout the area if needed (for coverage needs of team, when peers are out on vacation or leave), and across the Pee Dee zone for infrequent storm response support.
Responsibilities
Develop then provide technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems in area of expertise,
Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities,
Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and sketches, with assistance,
Conducts engineering and related studies such as voltage drop & flicker, three phase transformer load diversification, structural analysis (Pole Foreman), etc.
Strives to continually improve job-related, technical, and professional knowledge, skills, and performance,
Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities,
Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills,
Maintains accurate records and files,

Basic Qualifications Engineering Technologist I
Associates degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
In lieu of degree, HS/GED and 2+ years of relevant industry experience.
Basic Qualifications Engineering Technologist II
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology OR 2+ years relevant industry experience and an Associate’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
In lieu of degree, HS/GED and 4+ years relevant industry experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Good written and oral communication skills & able to effectively apply basic principles of project management.
Experience in the utility industry; specifically, Power Distribution and related customer service on phone calls, emails and notably in-person
Experience managing Work Orders in MAXIMO (Date management, pre-requisites, construction tasks, status updating, etc.)
GIS based drawing tools, specifically in the internally developed tool Design Lite, with estimation of material and labor Compatible Units (CU).
OUD or MicroStation (Bentley suite), and/or AutoCAD skills are a plus, along with familiarity with ESRI products such as ARGUS.
Knowledge of NESC based overhead and underground power distribution specifications.
Superior organizational skills to manage a substantial backlog of Work Orders from residential, commercial, and industrial customers both externally and with internal customers such as land services for a geographic territory assigned to the individual.
Candidate will need to work well with other team members in the Area Engineering group as well as proactively communicate with Work Management, Scheduling and Construction groups.
Emotional intelligence and discipline to collaborate with customers seeking immediate resolutions to specific needs and potential process gap remediation.
Working Conditions
Hybrid Mobility Classification - (Minimum 3 days in office) is available after initial training and transition phase, with emphasis on in-person availability as needed for business and customers need during the week and across business hours starting at least at 8am
Mix of field work, computer-aided design, and project management in office & hybrid settings
Ability to stake jobs, drive flags in the ground, check poles with probing tools/hammer and handling of PPE and basic tools.
Potentially assist peers out of other office locations within this same area, like Fort Mill, York, or Chester, when covering them or for workload balancing
Drive (shared) pool allocated company vehicles to site visits and storm roles, following all company safety protocol and requirements, typically from their reporting Operations Center
