Northrop Grumman is currently seeking an Engineering Technician to provide support to our Armament Systems Division team at our Elk River, MN office.

Northrop Grumman Armament Systems designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Position Description:

Provides technical support to engineers on a variety of technical tasks. Gathers, maintains, formats, compiles, and manipulates technical data, such as material test results and engineering design changes. Produces engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics). Performs detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas; preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency; and quantitative judgments concerning technical data. Uses personal computer in performance of analyses and development of documentation/reports. May conduct tests and record data to assist with engineering evaluation or analysis.

Typical Duties:

Typical duties will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Work in a munitions test environment with medium to high complexity systems.
  • Operate/perform many different types of medium caliber gun systems, environmental testing, and energetic testing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Engineers, Production Control, and Test Personnel in a fast moving environment.
  • Meticulously follow Detailed Operating Procedures and collect/record data as necessary.
  • Work with Engineers to develop electrical/mechanical designs during early stage development programs.
  • Ability and interest for international travel to support customer contracts.
  • Ability to multi-task.

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent education completion
  • 2 years of experience in electrical/mechanical testing
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Computer proficiency
  • As a responsible party to ATF, obtain coverage under Safe Explosive Act upon starting

Desired Qualifications

  • Technical or vocational 2-year electronics/mechanical degree from a trade school or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • 3 years of experience in electrical/mechanical testing strongly desired
  • High electrical and/or mechanical aptitude preferred

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
