Engineering Manager

The Basics

As an Engineering Manager in Tanium’s AI Engineering department, you will lead a team of software engineers focused on building data-driven solutions that power Tanium’s unified endpoint management and security platform. This role combines traditional software engineering leadership with responsibilities in data analytics, data engineering, and applied data science, enabling our customers to gain actionable insights from massive datasets.
 
What you’ll do
  • Build and lead exceptional teams of highly qualified engineers across software, data engineering, and analytics disciplines by hiring, coaching, and instilling a sense of ownership and impact.
  • Drive the development of scalable data pipelines, analytics platforms, and AI-powered features that enhance Tanium’s product capabilities.
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX designers, and other stakeholders to define the vision and roadmap for data-centric and AI-driven solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership in areas such as distributed data processing, data modeling, and machine learning integration.
  • Partner with data scientists to operationalize models and ensure robust deployment into production environments.
  • Ensure delivery of supportable, scalable, and performant software and data systems by the team.
  • Promote best practices in data governance, security, and compliance across all data-related initiatives.
  • Keep up with emerging trends in AI, data engineering, and analytics to identify opportunities for innovation.
We’re looking for someone with
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or other relevant degree or equivalent experience
Experience:
  • 5+ years managing high-performing engineering teams, including data-focused roles.
  • 10+ years designing, developing, and deploying software and/or data systems at scale.
  • Proven track record in architecting and delivering enterprise-level solutions involving large-scale data processing and analytics.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data technologies (e.g., Spark, Kafka, SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud data platforms).
  • Familiarity with machine learning workflows and operationalization of models.
  • Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle and Data Engineering best practices.
  • Ability to think from first principles and deliver pragmatic solutions in a fast-paced environment.

What you’ll get

The annual base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000 to $545,000. This range is an estimate for what Tanium will pay a new hire. The actual annual base salary offered may be adjusted based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, location, education, skills, training, and experience.
