Bankwest's Technology Division develops and executes all technical change within the organisation ensuring the leverage of technology to deliver the Bankwest strategy. The Division works on a wide variety of technologies and projects with the support of a dedicated team in an Agile methodology. Our team is responsible for the world-leading application of technology and operations across every aspect of the bank – from product platforms for our customers, to essential tools within our business.
You’ll be part Origination and Lending Experiences and as an Engineering Manager, you will oversee the full lifecycle of Critical Systems, ensuring they meet business needs efficiently and cost-effectively. Your responsibilities include managing service operations, maintaining system health & service continuity obligations, and ensuring IT asset performance.
You’ll manage a creative team of engineers, promoting continuous improvement, developing technical roadmaps, and improving the quality of technical solutions by implementing industry best practises. You'll also work closely with other technical leaders and product owners to document new changes and drive various initiatives. It will be key that you are able communicate well with the rest of the squad members, provide technical guidance and mentoring to the engineers in the team, while being exposed to some interesting challenges.
We’re interested in hearing from people who:
Possesses full-cycle engineering experience: ideation, technical design, build, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance.
Build, lead and inspire an engaged team of Engineers. Providing effective coaching to Engineers and establishing mechanisms for peer-to-peer learning and mentoring.
Communicate Engineering Practice standards and consistent ways of working across the domain and Bankwest that align to industry standards.
Actively embraces and integrates AI-driven solutions (including LLMs and agentic AI approaches) to enhance our engineering workflows and product capabilities.
Can constructively challenge the status quo while influencing stakeholders at various levels.
Empowers team to manage their work appropriately, respond to queries, address impediments and problem solve technical issues.
Contributes to complex delivery planning by providing guidance and oversight to ensure that technical deliveries are aligned with engineering direction and strategy.
Have Operational experience working with large distributed systems, including managing system health, risk and compliance obligations.
Have a deep understanding of Service Management Operations at an Organisational level.
Tech Skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:
Application development background and experience using React (Next.js), Java, and REST APIs.
Serverless Computing using AWS - AWS lambda, SQS, SNS, Aurora PostgreSQL.
Experienced in working in a DevSecOps environment.
Microservices architecture, Design Patterns, and best practices in software programming.
Logging and Monitoring tools, and foundational SRE practices.
Any experience with the following would be great - AI/ML, Agentic AI.
