What You Will Contribute:
 

Overview

The Engineering Manager will lead a dynamic team of engineers, driving innovation and operational excellence in alignment with organizational goals. This role requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and business acumen to ensure successful project execution and continuous improvement across engineering functions.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

  • Communicate a clear vision and departmental objectives as defined by senior leadership.
  • Inspire and motivate staff to maintain a proactive approach and sense of urgency in achieving goals.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, and accountability, encouraging innovative solutions without fear of reprisal.
  • Manage hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, goal setting, and corrective actions for direct reports.
  • Resolve conflicts and maintain team cohesion to meet departmental objectives.

Technical Oversight

  • Provide training and resources to enhance team efficiency and technical capabilities.
  • Serve as a liaison between engineering staff and senior management, maintaining a strong understanding of market requirements, engineering principles, quality systems, and manufacturing practices.
  • Lead or support municipal water and wastewater projects, including task assignment, schedule management, and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Conduct technical reviews (QA/QC) of deliverables such as construction drawings, specifications, and hydraulic modeling reports.
  • Make design decisions aligned with project goals, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
  • Oversee contractor selection, bidding processes, and preparation of contract documents.
  • Manage construction administration activities, including field observations, responding to inquiries, and recommending change orders.
  • Develop cost estimates, proposals, and project schedules for new opportunities.
  • Sign and seal engineering documents as an authorized representative.

Project Management

  • Prioritize team and cross-functional efforts to focus on high-impact activities.
  • Plan and execute complex projects, coordinating internal and external resources effectively.
  • Identify and mitigate technical, scheduling, and budget risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.

Quality & Compliance

  • Establish and enforce rigorous testing and validation processes.
  • Drive root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for system failures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, reliability, and regulatory standards.

Business Acumen

  • Develop project financials, including cost analysis, ROI projections, and budget management.
  • Collaborate with product management and operations to align engineering initiatives with business objectives.
  • Create a positive work environment built on trust, feedback, and mutual respect.

Communication

  • Provide regular project status updates and performance reports to senior management.
  • Clearly define roles and responsibilities for team members at the start of each project.
