Engineering Director - Machine Learning

The Engineering Director - Machine Learning is responsible for building, growing, and managing a team that delivers state-of-the-art GenAI and Machine Learning (ML) solutions to redefine the commercial real estate industry. Opportunities exist to push the boundaries of Berkadia's data and content generation capabilities by providing GenAI and ML solutions to improve revenue generation, risk reduction, and efficiencies.

We Innovate to shape the future of CRE, so in this role you will:

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute organizational machine learning strategy, aligning technical capabilities with business objectives and growth targets.
  • Lead and grow a team of Machine Learning Engineers, Product Managers, and Software Engineers, coaching them on discovering and implementing next-generation GenAI and ML solutions and scaling their teams.
  • Oversee the design, development, and deployment of scalable machine learning systems and infrastructure across multiple business domains.
  • Guide technical decision-making on model architecture, framework selection, and infrastructure planning.
  • Collaborate closely with product, data, and software engineering to develop their roadmap and deliverables.
  • Identify ways to use ML for new business cases that produce business value.
  • Lead the generation of predictive algorithms, generative AI solutions & intelligent document processing that enhance and automate workflows and decision making at the organization
  • Analyze requirements and collaborate with product, architecture, data teams, and software engineering teams.
  • Implement designs with minimal assistance.
  • Write accurate production-quality code using OpenAI, AWS, Azure, and PySpark.
  • Build and test code to validate functionality against requirements and ensure full unit test coverage.
  • Participate in peer code reviews, both as a submitter and a reviewer.
  • Thoroughly document code and design.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of materials.
  • Provide staff and clients with training and technical assistance related to new, existing, and revised products.
  • Provide post-release support to internal and external customers.
  • Identify improvements in the software development lifecycle.
  • Stay current with new technology and design patterns.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience building and tuning machine learning models
  • Experience delivering Machine Learning solutions
  • Proficiency in R and/or Python, Javascript, Node.js. Experience with Spark. 
  • Strong experience with Scrum methodology and Agile practices, as well as Open Source technologies. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong logical, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
