THE ROLE

Under general direction from the Chief Engineer, the Engineering Supervisor assists in directing the engineering departments operations, preplanning of preventive maintenance, and supervises and directs engineering personnel in installation, repair, and maintenance of all mechanical and electrical equipment along with building envelope, related systems, and components. May also perform or direct installation of electric and utilities for event related activities. This position may require working varying days and shift times including holidays and weekends.

In the absence of the Chief Engineer, the Engineering Supervisor will assume Chief Engineer responsibilities and may receive functional event related instructions from the Event Manager(s), or general instructions from the Director of Operations or Assistant General Manager. Requires a commitment to work a flexible and irregular work schedule according to specific event agendas and assignments, including lengthy hours, early mornings, late evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintains a safe, secure, pleasant environment for clients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Follows Convention Center policies and procedures, applicable codes, and safety regulations.
  • Schedule, supervise and direct engineering staff and monitor performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Performs regular inspections of building spaces to assess maintenance and repair needs.
  • Leads or directly operates and monitors critical and non-critical system equipment and components, including building automation and lighting controls.
  • Provide training and supervision aimed at expanding the capabilities of the engineering staff. Specific duties include but not limited to: Demonstrating the proper use and care of tools and instruments, giving hands on instruction in basic maintenance, safety, and troubleshooting procedures, recommending relevant outside training courses for enrollment, and instilling an overall level of professionalism in manner and appearance.
  • Supervise and implement the Convention Center maintenance program. Specific duties include but are not limited to: scheduling of preventive and corrective maintenance with a minimum disruption of building services, performing, and/or delegating maintenance tasks to the appropriately qualified maintenance staff member, orders parts and equipment required for repair, maintenance and installation of new equipment and facilities, and maintains inventory.  Performs or verifies all required documentation is complete and current for work orders, plant operations, safety tests, and inspections.
  • Utilizes the Altum CMMS for scheduling, assigning, and documentation of work performed by the engineering department.
  • Respond immediately to emergency situations (fire, evacuation, equipment failure, etc.) and customer concerns.
  • Insure the availability of an adequate operating inventory of tools and supplies. Specific duties include but not limited to: Preparing and submitting purchase-order requests, developing sources for stock materials, and performing periodic checks for supplies.
  • Act as liaison between contractors and facility as directed. Assist and interact with clients, exhibitors, and vendors.
  • Act as liaison between Human Resource and Engineering staff, as well as the Accounting Department and the Operations Department.
  • Research and prepare information for comprehensive reports. Assist in the drafting, proofreading, and processing of these reports and related documents.
  • Maintain a variety of files and records of information such as attendance, budget, event files, vendor files, and expense reports.
  • Remain informed of company policies and procedures, answering related internal and external questions within authority.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
  • Performs other related duties as may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all Legends & ASM policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include supervision and implementation of the Convention Center maintenance program. Supervisory duties include but are not limited to: scheduling of staffing, assigning maintenance tasks to the appropriately qualified staff member and verifying work is properly completed. Oversees contracted work for maintenance, repairs, and improvements. Responsible for training, evaluation, timekeeping, and disciplinary action of assigned staff. Performs or verifies all required documentation is complete and current for work orders, plant operations, safety tests, and inspections.

Education and/or Experience    

  • 5+ years related work experience, including 2+ years supervisory experience in plant operations and maintenance.
  • High school diploma, or equivalent GED

Skills and Abilities

  • Follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form.
  • Strong technical skills related to building machinery and systems operation and fault diagnosis.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Work independently, exercising judgment and initiative.
  • Maintain an effective working relationship with clients, staff, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Remain flexible and adjust to situations as they occur.

Computer Skills                                               

To perform this job successfully, the individual should have intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), CMMS, Momentous, AutoCAD and BlueBeam.
