The Mechanical Engineering team has an opening for an Engineer Aeronautical – Level 1 within the Launch Systems Business Unit at our Chandler, AZ facility.

Northrop Grumman designs, builds and delivers space, defense and aviation-related systems to customers around the world. Our main products include launch vehicles and related propulsion systems; missile products, subsystems and defense electronics; precision weapons, armament systems and ammunition; satellites and associated space components and services; and advanced aerospace structures.

Essential Functions:

  • Organize, review, and release prototype and production drawing packages to produce components and assemblies for test and production
  • Size components for vehicle interfaces, available operating envelopes, and performance requirements
  • Initiate overall design concepts, detailed component designs, material selection, and assembly approaches to fabricate vehicle components and systems
  • Interpret, select, and apply company/commercial/military specifications and customer requirements to processes, components, and systems to accomplish specific design requirements
  • Perform stress analysis, and evaluate weight & mass properties to size components for available operating envelopes and performance requirements
  • Supply hands-on engineering support for component fabrication and assembly of prototype, testing, and production hardware to resolve design, manufacturing, assembly, quality, and performance issues
  • Produce engineering documentation, technical reports, and drawings to support design, integration, and testing efforts
  • Other duties upon request


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 0 years of related engineering experience
  • Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret security clearance
  • Demonstrated experience/knowledge, either through education, other internships, or previous jobs, in the mechanical engineering discipline and principles
  • Ability to read and generate engineering drawings to fabricate component parts and assemblies
  • Strong written, and verbal communication skills
  • Basic problem solving skills and computer skills with standard word processing/spreadsheet experience
  • Ability to listen effectively, take direction, and possess initiative to accomplish assigned tasks and complete work in a timely fashion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical or aerospace engineering or related with a 3.25 or higher GPA
  • Active US DoD Secret security celarance, or higher at the time of application

Primary Level Salary Range: $65,800.00 - $98,800.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
