Responsible for receiving and processing outage requests for Transmission facilities for maintenance of lines and station equipment while maintaining adequate system stability and security. Coordinates activities with the various departments of the Company to maintainJob Description
What You'll Do:
Responsible for coordinating the operation of the transmission system, restoration of service, prearranged switching for construction and/or maintenance.
Assist in the coordination of work that is performed in accordance with established practices and procedures by conversing with the shift lead or in the absence of the shift lead.
Verify the accuracy of switching orders for the removal and restoration of transmission lines and station equipment ensuring that all safety and departmental policies are adhered to.
Assist and support in the restoration of service as quickly as possible following emergency unplanned outages consistent with safe practices.
Act on information concerning outages or customer inquiries during normal business hours when necessary and assist with system information pertinent to forced outages during times of major storms.
Approve and coordinate facility outages, loadings and operating voltage levels with appropriate personnel in the interconnected companies, generating plants, transmission operations centers, transmission dispatching centers, and distribution dispatching centers.
Execute the guidelines in the Transmission Operations (TOPs) established policy for Outage Coordination Procedure.
Engagement in the Project Management Lead Project (PLMP) process for the execution of outages.
Approve/review one-lines in associated one-line process.
Perform Switching Audits and document in Switching Audit Database as assigned.
Assist Transmission Dispatch Center (TDC) Supervision in the training of system operators as assigned.
Fulfill assigned role in the AEP Incident Commend Center (ICS) as determined by TDC management.
Represent TDC in various TOPs/TDC or Real Time Operations (RTO) working groups as assigned.
Assist in the attestation of Dispatcher Task Qualifications activities as needed.
Responsible for the delivery of AEP Switching & Tagging training (Initial, Refresher, Contractor) to other business units as assigned.
What You'll Need:
Education Requirements:
Two-year technical degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or a related field, OR High school diploma with two (2) years of power system operation or dispatching experience required. Four-year engineering/technical degree from an accredited ABET institution preferred.
Experience Requirements:
In addition to any experience requirement listed above, must have a minimum of six (6) years of experience in Transmission RealTime Operations including two (2) years of experience as an Energy Delivery System Operator Principal, Energy Delivery Operations Coordinator/Scheduler Senior, Engineer Sr (TOPs), or SCC Reliability Coordinator Principal.
Licenses/Certifications:
• Must be NERC certified at either the Reliability Operator or Transmission Operator level and maintain certification credentials as set forth by NERC.
• Valid state driver's license required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to analyze conditions and make proper decisions quickly under emergency situations.
• Ability to communicate instructions clearly and concisely.
• Expected to respond after hours, nights, weekends to customer-based outage issues, outage coordination issues, assistance with outage data reporting during ICS or storm scenarios.
• This position may require occasional travel.
