Job Summary
Performs with minimal supervision, duties, including but not limited to inspections and maintenance of solar installations and energy/battery storage units.
What you will do
- Performs inspections and repairs on Solar and Energy/Battery installations throughout the Alliant Energy (IPL) footprint.
- Once qualified in the training and can demonstrate the tasks: Performs electrical, mechanical, instrument and control, PLC troubleshooting, maintaining, calibrating, repairing, cleaning, inspecting, and constructing of equipment and systems for the generation facility.
- Maintains performance monitoring and control equipment, including programmable logic controllers (PLC's). Monitors solar/battery performance. Keeps testing records as assigned.
- Performs all work according to established procedure and safety practices.
- Utilizes software and third party to monitor solar and energy storage.
- Is proficient in the use of machine tools and various hand powered tools as job needs dictate.
- Supports safety, plant reliability, productivity, and plant efficiency improvements by participating in various continuous improvement activities.
- Performs inspections on solar panels, racking, inverters, wiring and controls.
- Perform preventative maintenance activities of solar and battery facilities including both electrical and mechanical systems.
- Repairs include but are not limited to replacement of damaged solar panels, replacement of batteries, replacement of elighting equipment, fence repair, other minor repairs, inverter repairs, racking repairs, equipment touch-up painting, and proper site signage.
- Coordinate tracking of field issues with Engineering.
- Prepares and maintains records of equipment tests and maintenance, keeps operating records, prepares purchase authorizations and performs other administrative work as required.
- Makes/builds job procedures for job task and special tests as directed in connection with operation, maintenance and design of all types of electrical equipment and systems.
- Trains fellow employees in related activities.
- Checks HVAC system function, changing filters, fluids, etc.
- Perform inspections and repairs on site communication equipment.
- Inspects and performs operational tests on electric devices at both types of sites.
- May assist Substation Electrician or Line Technician in activities when an additional journeyman Substation/Line Technician is not required.
- Responds to emergency call-outs during off duty hours.
- Performs voltage checks on equipment 1,000 AC volts and 2,000 VDC or less.
- Once qualified, performs (LOTO) for operation, maintenance, and construction activities within this job description.
- Is trained in the use of forklift, telehandler, skid loader, and scissor lift.
- Performs other duties which are similar, related, or incidental to this position.
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED. Required
- Associate Degree. Solar or Energy Storage. Preferred
Preferred Experience
- 0-2 years of industrial field experience in the solar or battery industry
- Vocational/Technical School Training a plus.
Other Requirements
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Employees in this job classification are covered by the Residency Policy and will be required to live within 60 minutes of their headquarters.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated mechanical ability.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems.
- Basic knowledge of electricity, the National Electric Safety Code (NESC), National Electric Code (NEC), and Alliant Services Standards.
- Ability to read and comprehend Right-To-Know information.
- Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.269, NFPA 70E, and 70B.
- Proficiency reading technical specification documents, site plans, and electric schematics.
- Good communication skills. Demonstrated ability to coordinate work and work with others.
- General computer, network, and technology proficiency.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Knowledge of company safety rules and practices.
- Ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
- Must be willing long overtime hours to maintain continuity of service as emergencies may require.
- Basic knowledge of electric utility systems operation, maintenance and construction practices.
- Knowledge of solar and battery storage equipment.
- Both AC (up to 1,000 volts) and DC (up to 2,000 volts) experience preferred.
- Ability to achieve successful completion of Alliant Energy's Energy Technician training program. This may include training and testing from a 3rd party vendor.

Pay Range:
$38.26 - $43.74
