We’re seeking a talented Electronics Engineer to join our cutting-edge engineering team. This is a great opportunity to contribute to high-impact projects that are shaping the future of aerospace and defence. The role can be based at either our Engineering Hub in Milton Keynes or our Manufacturing Centre in Great Yarmouth.
In this pivotal role you’ll provide high-reliability microelectronics product and circuit design expertise in support of new product introductions, while enhancing and optimising existing designs. The role focuses on hybrid micro-circuit development and PCB layout design using Altium for applications in high-performance and mission-critical environments, such as aerospace and defence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and layout of PCBAs and thick film hybrid circuits for new and existing products based on customer and internal requirements.
- Use Altium Designer to produce detailed PCB and substrate layouts, wire bonding layouts, and package designs.
- Generate and maintain full drawing packs and associated manufacturing documentation.
- Address design changes, obsolescence, and provide design support throughout the product lifecycle.
- Engage technically with customers and design partners to ensure all designs meet specification and performance requirements.
- Support manufacturing and test departments with design-related issues and troubleshoot as required.
- Participate in continuous improvement and cost-saving initiatives to enhance product performance and manufacturability.
- Contribute to new product development projects as the engineering lead for assigned designs.
- Assist document control with layout and part drawings to create or update product documentation.
- Support customer visits and represent engineering during audits or reviews.
- Undertake any other duties as required to maintain and/or improve the efficiency, quality, and service of the engineering team.
Skills and Experience Required
Essential:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent qualification/experience).
- Proven experience in electronics design and PCB layout using Altium Designer.
- Strong electronics engineering background, including analogue/digital circuit design.
- Familiarity with PCBA techniques, thick film hybrid technologies, and electronic test methodologies.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and a methodical, structured approach to work.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Initiative and ability to adapt to changing priorities.
- SC clearance or ability to obtain.
Desirable:
- Experience in high-reliability microelectronics design and development.
- Understanding of microelectronics assembly techniques.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of additional ECAD/MCAD tools (e.g. Cadence, Eagle, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Cam350, GC Powerplace).
- Experience in aerospace, defence, or other regulated industries.
Other Requirements
- Occasional travel to other Spectrum Control sites and customer locations as required.
- SC clearance or ability to obtain.
