Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a self-motivated Electrical Materials & Process Engineer to work in Huntington Beach, CA.

This position requires a candidate to support avionics IPT design and manufacturing teams with a minimum of 5-years experience in PWB/PWA/CCA, and LRU box level experience IAW AS8030 Requirements for an Electronic Materials and Processes Management Plan used in Proprietary, Human-Space Flight, Missile, Navy Shipboard Navigation & Sensors, and Military & Commercial Aircraft applications. The Candidate is expected to have knowledge and experience in Printed Wiring Board (PWB), Printed Wiring Assemblies (PWA) / Circuit Card Assemblies (CCA) IAW IPC design, fabrication, and acceptance requirements i.e., IPC-2221 PWB design, IPC-IPC-6012 rigid PWB acceptance, IPC-A-610 CCA acceptance requirements, and IPC J-STD-001 soldering class 3 including Space Addendum. Knowledge in packaging design and acceptance related to microcircuits hybrids/MCM is a plus.

The position also requires leadership skills to lead teams and work with other subject matter experts (SMEs) in engineering, quality, and supplier management developing and improving electrical business processes and practices and qualifying suppliers and performing root cause and corrective actions (RCCA) on electrical material and process issues. The candidate will be required to disposition electrical materials, PWBs, PWA/CCAs, electrical COTs assemblies, and cable assemblies through material review boards (MRB) and solving obsolete materials and unqualified suppliers.

The Candidate will collaborate with electrical Components and Materials Laboratory to support the evaluations noted above. Laboratory experience in electronic failure analysis is a plus. Other knowledge and skill areas that are expected by the candidate are conductive metal finishes, conductive adhesives & composites, lead-free mitigation, counterfeit mitigation, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) handing requirements.

Position Responsibilities:  

The Electrical M&P Engineer responsibilities listed below spans the entire avionic product cycle from development through production.

  • Lead Teams and delegate to team members
  • Use project management tools to meet the cost, technical and schedule requirements
  • Mentor and coach early career electrical M&P Engineers
  • Develop program CDRL DID deliverables (M&P Plans, Lead-Free Mitigation Plans, Corrosion Control Plans, M&P Lists, Qualification reports, etc.)
  • Review and approve Supplier SDRL DID deliverables, (M&P Plans, Corrosion Control Plans, M&P Lists, Qualification reports, etc.)
  • Support electrical designers in the selection of electrical materials (conformal coatings, solder, cleaning solutions, solder mask, adhesives, etc.) and processes
  • Develop and revise Material & Process Specifications, Manufacturing Work Instructions, & Product Standards
  • Develop and qualify new materials, processes, tools, & training plans
  • Support in-house and supplier PWB & CCA manufacturers, CCA Box integrators
  • Qualify or perform engineering survey/evaluation of PWB fabricator suppliers and CCA suppliers, manufacturing readiness, manufacturing audits, ESD, contamination, cleanliness, SPC controls, etc.
  • Resolve electrical M&P issues (PWB/CCA manufacturing, etc.) by conducting failure analysis and RCCA (Root Cause and Corrective Action)
  • Coordinate with Boeing and external laboratories for electrical material evaluations
  • Support Boeing Initiatives (Design Practices, etc.)
  • Custodianship of electrical product standards
  • Represent Boeing/voting member in Industry IPC-610, J-STD-001, IPC-6012 and other IPC Committees/Subcommittees
  • Travel required to support these responsibilities 25% of the time

The selected candidate will be required to work 100% onsite in Huntington Beach CA

ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):  

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering (including manufacturing engineering technology)

Preferred Certificates (Desired Skills & Experience):

  • IPC-600, IPC-6012, & J-STD-001 Class 3 including Space Addendum Certifications

Typical Education/Experience:

(Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or physics or (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+2 years' related work experience, Master+3 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

(Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range:

Pay Range for level 3: $114,750-$155,250

Pay Range for level 4: $138,550-$187,450
