Education Reporter, The California Post

Los Angeles - Pico Blvd Full time

Job Description :

The New York Post is heading West – and this is your chance to be a part of history as we open a brand-new newsroom and make a significant investment in Los Angeles. • Break exclusive stories and own a competitive, high-interest beat.

  • Develop and maintain strong sources within school districts, universities, government agencies, teacher unions, parent groups, and policy organizations.

  • Produce investigative and analytical pieces that go beyond daily news.

  • Collaborate with editors, photographers, and video teams to develop engaging multimedia storytelling.

  • Utilize WordPress, SEO best practices, and audience insights to maximize reach and engagement.

  • Appear on camera for video explainers, interviews, or on-the-ground coverage when needed.

Requirements:

  • At least 3 years of education reporting or beat reporting experience, ideally within a major, breaking-news environment.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of California’s education system, key players, and emerging issues.

  • Strong source network or the ability to quickly build one.

  • Excellent writing, reporting, investigative, and analytical skills.

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments under tight deadlines.

  • Working knowledge of WordPress, SEO, and social media best practices.

  • On-camera experience or comfort with video storytelling preferred.

  • Must be flexible to travel for coverage if/when needed.

Note: This role is expected to work on-site five days a week, except when performing fieldwork.
