Job Description:
HPE is seeking a Distinguished Technologist to serve as the architectural design authority for HPE’s private and hybrid cloud offerings. You will partner with architects for Private Cloud offerings (who remain the architecture authorities for their respective solutions) and guide presales, pursuit, and delivery teams to ensure consistent, high‑quality outcomes. Your focus is to set the cross‑solution guardrails, curate the collateral and enablement that the field needs to win and govern designs through stage gates so that what we sell is what we can deliver and support at scale.
Portfolio Architecture & Governance
Own the solution‑level reference architecture for private/hybrid cloud, ensuring that the customer solutions based on HPE Private Cloud offerings align to common principles and solution guardrails (security, performance, availability, cost, Day‑2 ops).
Drive design & delivery forums that bring together architects, platform owners, and integration leads to resolve cross‑cutting concerns (identity, networking, observability, data protection, compliance).
Define design guardrails and decision records (ADR) to promote consistency and reduce technical variance across pursuits and deliveries.
Guidance for Presales, Pursuit & Delivery
Establish architecture stage gates (e.g., solution & delivery reviews, POC/POV readiness, delivery transition) and review complex deals for architecture alignment, risk, feasibility, and supportability.
Partner with presales/pursuit teams to shape solution approaches, ensuring alignment with portfolio standards and delivery constraints.
Partner with delivery and customer success on readiness, rollout patterns, and operational guardrails; intervene as escalation architect on critical issues to restore architectural integrity.
Collateral Factory & Enablement at Scale
Curate a “one‑stop” portfolio kit: reference architectures, design patterns, integration guides, security/compliance blueprints, sizing/TCO considerations, runbooks, and delivery playbooks.
Lead a documentation‑as‑code practice (Markdown/Sphinx/Git) so content is versioned, automatable, and reusable; ensure PCE/PCAI solution teams contribute and consume consistently.
Drive field/delivery enablement (briefings, labs, hands‑on guides) and keep content fresh through a regular cadence tied to roadmap drops and major releases.
Roadmap Influence & Cross‑Portfolio Integration
Provide structured field‑to‑product feedback (scale limits, UX gaps, integration priorities) that shapes backlog and roadmap, working closely with Product Management and R&D.
Propose and socialize “north‑star” patterns (e.g., zero‑trust baseline, day‑2 upgrade strategy, infrastructure patterns) that cut across Private Cloud offerings.
Solution Architects (Private Cloud BU architects): Collaborate as peers; they are solution authorities, you align and integrate across solutions and codify portfolio guardrails.
Presales & Pursuit Teams: Provide architecture guidance and stage‑gate reviews; ensure win themes align to what we can deliver and support.
Delivery/Services Architects & PMO: Define handoff criteria and acceptance; manage design variances and escalations during delivery.
Product Management & R&D: Feed field insights into roadmap; validate designs against product constraints; plan integration milestones.
You will be a strong fit if you can show:
Technical
Demonstrated experience leveraging deep technical expertise to architect, deploy, and deliver complex private cloud solutions from initial conception through implementation with extensive experience clarifying and defining ambiguous private cloud requirements.
Comfortable navigating undefined problem spaces to deliver innovative customer solutions.
Deep expertise across virtualization, engineered systems, compute, storage & storage networking, and datacenter networking for hybrid/private cloud.
Proven ability to govern complex, multi‑domain architectures at enterprise scale; mastery of trade‑offs across performance, resilience, security, and TCO.
Strong proficiency with documentation‑as‑code (Markdown, Sphinx, Git) and with building reusable architecture assets.
Familiarity with cloud operating models (guardrails, automation, FinOps) and AI/ML infrastructure patterns in private cloud is preferred.
Leadership & Communication
Recognized ability to influence without authority across engineering, field, and delivery.
Exceptional communication (executive storytelling and deep‑dive clarity) and design review leadership.
Track record mentoring senior/principal engineers and solution architects.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
15+ years in architecture/engineering leadership roles with measurable impact on large, multi‑domain solutions and programs.
