The purpose of the Dispute Resolution Officer role in NI Corporate Legal) is to participate in dispute resolution at the Personal Injury Commission (PIC) workers insurance stream to pro-actively assist in the management and, where possible early resolution of disputes, ensuring positive outcomes are maximised.
This will be a permanent, full time position based in the Sydney or Newcastle office, with work-from-home flexibility (up to 3 days per week) considered from month three, subject to performance and approval.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
Attend the Personal Injury Commission (PIC) as EML’s representative for in person and MS Teams litigation events for statutory and work injury damages matters.
Liaise with the Legal Specialist, Case Manager, Technical Specialist, Team Leader, and Managers to effectively manage disputes in the PIC.
Liaise with the external legal provider and barristers before and throughout PIC events.
Engage with the Legal Specialist, Case Manager and employer representative regarding the history and nature of the dispute(s), litigation strategy and to report the outcome.
Assist and support the NI Corporate Legal Team with full and effective matter management for all matters in its remit.
ABOUT YOU
At least 1-2 years experience in NSW workers compensation/personal injury claims management or personal injury law in NSW
Extensive experience with NSW workers compensation dispute and litigation processes
Strong understanding of the Workers Compensation Act (NSW) 1987 and the Workplace Injury Management Act (NSW) 1998 and associated Regulations
Comprehensive knowledge of, and adherence to, the Personal Injury Commission Rules 2021 and Guidelines
Strong understanding of NSW workers compensation legislation and case law.
Tertiary legal education highly regarded
