The Position

This position is part of the Predictive Modeling chapter within Pharmaceutical Sciences, with a focus on Disease Modeling (DM). DM specializes in mechanistic modeling, statistical disease progression modeling, advanced analytics, and the integration of diverse data sources, including omics and real-world data, to develop actionable insights and predictive models. These models inform clinical decisions across therapeutic areas through simulations of various scenarios. DM also fosters modeling expertise at Roche through training, support, and advocacy for modeling & simulation.

The opportunity:

  • Develop skills in Quantitative Systems Pharmacology (QSP) modeling by contributing to an early-stage Alzheimer’s project.

  • Explore and internalize an existing open-source QSP model implemented in Python using the JAX framework.

  • Calibrate the QSP model using internal and external data.

  • Translate scientific questions into model-based simulations to provide insights into the potential efficacy of a new molecule.

Who you are:

  • You are a Master's or PhD student or have completed a Master's degree within the past 12 months prior to the start date, specializing in computational biology, applied mathematics, statistics, or physics, and have some experience or familiarity with biological/physiological/medicine applications

  • You have strong programming skills in Python, R, MATLAB or Julia, and are eager to learn and apply new computational tools.

  • Experience with implementing, analyzing, and calibrating ODE-based dynamical models is highly desirable.

  • Familiarity with code documentation tools, such as GitLab and GitHub, is a plus.

  • You possess excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken.

  • You are a team player with strong communication skills, a focused work style, and a results-driven mindset.

  • Location: Basel, Switzerland

  • Target Start Date: Q1 2026

  • Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

  • Duration: 6 months
