Job Description

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas invites applications for Director, UNLV/CSUN Preschool [R0149565].

ROLE of the POSITION

This position is for the role of Director of the UNLV/CSUN Preschool, a Nevada Department of Education Five Star, NAEYC accredited program that is housed in the Lynn Bennett Early Childhood Education Center. The Director is responsible for all program and budget operations and supervision of the inclusive preschool, in particular the health, safety, and education of up to 300 children with and without disabilities six weeks through five years of age.  The Director is responsible for upholding the mission of a quality early childhood program, supporting teacher preparation, and collaborating with others to advance research of early childhood services. Community program collaboration with the school district and early intervention services is included. The position is part of the College of Education, Department of Early Childhood, Multilingual, and Special Education supervisory structure. This administrative position will continue to develop procedures and recommend policy for operations of the preschool at UNLV with annual evaluation.

Specifically, this position will:

  • Prepare and monitor annual self-supporting budget

  • Maintain interagency agreements with school districts and relevant nonprofit organizations

  • Oversee staff hiring and coordinating professional staff development

  • Collaborate with university departments on family or special events

  • Support research and external funding activities in collaboration with faculty

  • Maintain required compliance certifications

  • Regularly attend department/ college meetings

  • Facilitate on-site student practicum, field work internships, and course observations

  • Provide professional tours on site and support community outreach

  • Manage and oversee the hiring and staffing of head teachers and office administrators

  • Support the Program Coordinator with Teacher Assistants and part time staff

  • Monitor leave and Workday processes

  • Prepare annual reporting on preschool activities for university and external partners (e.g., accreditation)

PROFILE of the DEPARTMENT

The Lynn Bennett Early Childhood Education Education Center is housed in the Department of Early Childhood, Multilingual, and Special Education (EMS). The EMS department is comprised of a diverse faculty committed to developing innovative ideas through research, teaching, and service that improve the quality of life and educational experience for young children, multilingual learners, and individuals with disabilities from diverse backgrounds. We offer vibrant undergraduate and graduate programs in the areas of early childhood education, multilingual education, and special education. Additionally, our department is home/co-home to three research centers (i.e., the Lynn Bennett Early Childhood Education Center, the Disability Center for Collaborative Research, Inclusive Education, and Well-being, and the Zeiter Literacy Center) and several large externally-funded projects focused on the integration of inclusive, evidence-based instruction to support diverse individuals in public school settings. Finally, we are actively engaged in our respective fields as journal editors, members of review boards, leaders of professional organizations, and thought partners to the educational community in southern Nevada.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

This position requires:

  • a Master’s degree or higher in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, or Elementary Education with an Early Childhood endorsement from an accredited college or university as recognized by the United States Department of Education and/or the Council on Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), and

  • a minimum of 5-7 years of teaching experience in early childhood and 3-5 years of experience in management and supervision within an early education site.

  • Credentials must be obtained prior to the employment start date.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Completion of, or pursuit of, a doctoral degree in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education, or related field;

  • Experience supervising student teachers or paraeducators;

  • Participation in fundraising, grant, or event coordination activities focused on early childhood education.

  • Familiarity with child care licensing, state quality rating and improvement systems (QRIS), and national accreditation (e.g., NAEYC)

SALARY

Starting minimum salary is $83,000. Position is contingent upon funding.
