The Hartford is seeking a dynamic Director, Technology Strategy. In this new and highly visible enterprise role, the Director will collaborate closely with business unit and cross-functional strategy teams to shape, execute, and advance the organization’s strategic direction. The Director oversees enterprise-wide strategic planning, execution, and governance, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals and market dynamics. This hybrid role is based at our Hartford, CT Home Office (in-office Tuesday through Thursday).


Responsibilities

  • Oversee technology strategy updates for the ELT, including SWOT analyses and competitor assessments.

  • Lead the annual technology strategy process, partnering with business and functional leaders to develop deep-dive strategy materials.

  • Support the preparation and delivery of strategy materials for Board discussions.

  • Facilitate strategy updates, collaborating with Legal, CIOs, Finance, and business leaders to shape agendas, prepare materials, and ensure strategic alignment.

  • Manage the quarterly technology Scorecard, including annual metric reviews to ensure alignment with strategic goals.

  • Support strategic leadership sessions to align priorities and focus areas; serve as an independent, unbiased thought partner to senior leadership.

  • Ensure alignment and transparency across stakeholders, including the ELT, Board, and business units.

  • Develop executive-level and Board presentations, strategic narratives, and reports for leadership forums.

  • Advance enterprise strategic initiatives through effective communications strategy.

  • Build strong relationships across business units and technology functions to drive cohesive execution of strategic goals and foster credibility and trust.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of professional experience in management consulting and/or a strategy function within an insurance carrier. Some insurance industry experience required.

  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence at all levels, including the C-suite.

  • Strong analytical and storytelling skills; able to translate complex data into compelling narratives.

  • Proven track record of driving large-scale initiatives with measurable results.

  • Experience managing cross-functional teams in a complex, matrixed environment; adept at navigating ambiguity and driving clarity.

  • Demonstrated ability to quickly build strong, credible relationships with business leaders at all levels.

  • Strong financial acumen, including experience in budgeting, forecasting, and ROI analysis.

  • Technology savvy, with demonstrated ability to leverage Copilot or other AI tools to enhance productivity, generate content, and provide insightful data analysis.

  • Deep understanding of strategic planning processes and frameworks.

  • Adaptable to changing priorities and results-oriented in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for creating strategic visuals and reports.

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, strategy, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred, or equivalent experience.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$143,440 - $215,160
