Job Summary
Responsible for leading the private brands strategy and end-to-end product development for a specific product category. Leads a collaborative effort working with sourcing and engineering teams to build private brand solutions supporting the category management strategy. Oversee cross-functional teams ensuring timely delivery of high-quality products that deliver innovation and enhanced margin opportunities for the category.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
Uses knowledge of private brand sourcing expertise, data, and customer insights to inform product development decisions, driving sales and profitability.
Responsible for delivering private brands incremental margin targets.
Collaborates with stakeholders to define a comprehensive product development strategy including vision and success metrics, aligning the product roadmap and product goals with the Company’s overall goals, market trends, and customer needs.
Monitors the market landscape, evaluates competitive analysis, and stays updated on industry trends to ensure the product remains competitive while addressing evolving customer needs.
Collaborate with category management team to drive product selection and line reviews, negotiate, prepare & execute supplier contracts and contract compliance.
Measure & manage supplier performance. Works closely with product engineering, category management leaders, and sourcing teams to identify critical to quality flow-down characteristics in order to drive supplier processes and specifications for product development including, packaging, safety and environmental issues.
Ensures effective communication and alignment across all departments involved in product development.
Implements continuous improvement processes to enhance product development efficiency and effectiveness.
Monitors and evaluate the performance of product development activities and make necessary adjustments.
Ensures products meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Leads, mentors, and develops the product development team to drive performance improvement and efficiency.
Nature and Scope
Problems are typically defined by higher level leadership. Problems are difficult. Solutions require analysis and investigation.
Decides how to achieve planned results within an organization's plans, policies, and guidelines. May set or change plans/goals within respective department or area.
May manage department via multiple layers of managers OR directly supervise a staff of professional individual contributors at the senior or technical advisor level.
Work Environment
Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
Typically requires overnight travel 20% to 50% of the time.
Education and Experience
Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally, 9+ years of experience in a related field, including several years in a management/supervisory capacity.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience developing new products and creating product line structures alongside national brands.
Experience with sourcing, developing strategic supplier relationships, and negotiating.
In depth understanding of product development creating private label brands and overall go to market strategy
Experience as a change agent with the ability to influence at all levels of the business.
Understanding of supply chain process, domestic and international.
