Title: Director of Risk Management & Legal

Job Summary: The Director of Risk Management & Legal oversees enterprise-level risk exposure, insurance programs, contract management and negotiation, and legal compliance across the Stonebridge portfolio. This role partners with internal teams and external counsel to mitigate liability, manage claims, and ensure alignment with regulatory and contractual requirements.
Essential Functions and Duties:
• Support the Vice President of Risk Management and General Counsel in administering the company’s risk, insurance, and legal compliance programs.
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the risk management function, including coordination of property, liability, workers’ compensation, and auto claims across the portfolio.
• Supervise legal and insurance documentation processes, including contract tracking, claim file management, and coordination with external counsel and brokers.
• Draft and negotiate contracts for properties across the portfolio.
• Assist in the development and refinement of risk-related policies and safety procedures, ensuring consistent application across all Stonebridge properties.
• Monitor and track required risk and compliance data — including insurance certificates, safety trainings, claims reporting, and litigation records — ensuring timely documentation and reporting.
• Conduct internal audits and risk assessments in collaboration with field teams, identifying exposures and recommending operational adjustments.
• Coordinate with operational leaders and external partners to ensure appropriate claim resolution, recovery efforts, and litigation support.
• Maintain department systems, tools, and legal resources, ensuring accessibility and accuracy of legal documentation and risk data.
• Assist in the education and support of Team Members regarding risk mitigation, legal awareness, and insurance best practices.
• Stay informed on relevant regulatory changes and legal trends; escalate high-impact issues to the VP and GC as needed.

Required Experience, Education, and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Law, or a related field; JD or relevant certifications (e.g., ARM, CPCU) preferred.
• Minimum of 5–8 years of progressive experience in risk management, insurance, contract negotiation, or legal/compliance roles, preferably within hospitality or real estate.
• In-depth understanding of property, casualty, liability, and workers’ compensation insurance programs.
• Experience managing legal claims and coordinating with outside counsel, insurers, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks, including OSHA, ADA, and employment law.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and recommend practical solutions.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to advise cross-functional teams and engage with third parties.
• High level of discretion and judgment in handling confidential and sensitive information.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and risk or claims management systems.
• Ability to travel occasionally to support site assessments, training, and claims investigations.
Work Environment:
• This is a full-time, in-office position based at Stonebridge’s corporate headquarters.
• The role operates in a professional office setting with frequent use of computers, telephones, and standard office equipment.
• Must be able to remain seated for extended periods while managing detailed work involving legal documentation, claims analysis, and communication with internal and external parties.
• Occasional travel may be required to support property-level investigations, claims, or risk assessments.
• Flexibility to address urgent legal or risk-related matters outside of standard office hours, as necessary.
