The Admin Manager of Media Relations is responsible for the day-to-day development and execution of external media communications and overall external storytelling for OU Health through both earned and owned media channels.  This position will be responsible for executing a strategic media relations plan to educate, motivate and engage audiences on organizational initiatives, business strategy and objectives, particularly those that pertain to the development and maintenance of a positive brand reputation and public image. The Admin Manager of Media Relations will work to plan and execute earned media coverage for the healthcare enterprise and provide integrated media relations solutions that support marketing strategy. The role will also be responsible for day-to-day management of owned storytelling content and leadership of a team of media specialists.
 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Leads the planning and execution of news, blogs, video stories and other types of organizational storytelling work on earned media and owned channels, including the ability to assess, and recommend new owned channels, if needed, and execute on the planning and implementation of those channels.
  • Manages day-to-day media relations for the healthcare enterprise with the general public and media to promote a positive public image.
  • Serves as the deputy public information officer during crisis communications events.
  • Manages day-to-day execution of 24/7 media on-call responsibilities.
  • Leads in the development and maintenance of working relationships with local, regional, and national media sources.
  • Proactively pitches media stories to local, regional, and national media.
  • Obtains earned media marketing through creative use of public relations and special events.
  • Manages a team of public relations coordinators to ensure optimal media coverage tailored to each audience.
  • Represents the department as a key marketing management point of contact for all day-to-day aspects of the healthcare enterprise.
  • Provides leadership on delegated Marketing initiatives as assigned.
  • Leads, develops, coaches, and effectively manages the team to ensure deliverables and performance metrics are met.  Develops team to accomplish results through training, development, performance management and recognition.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree required.  Degree in in journalism, public relations, communications, or marketing preferred.

Experience: 3 to 5 years of progressive leadership experience including at least 1 year experience in media relations.

  • Must possess the required level of skills and abilities to read, write, speak, and apply mathematical concepts and sound reasoning to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this job.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders. Strong influence skills and ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to maintain integrity and trust among leadership and staff. 
  • Proven ability to manage a team of professionals and lead a departmental function.
  • Demonstrated business acumen. Demonstrated business understanding and ability to balance people/ organizational decisions with business considerations. Experience using metrics to drive decisions and working with external vendors.
  • Must be a strategic thinker, self-motivated and have excellent problem solving and project management skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple high priority deliverables.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient with the use of Microsoft Office tools.
