As a Director, Global Collaboration Agreements you will be a key member of a team that is responsible for establishing, negotiating and executing academic collaboration agreements for the Oncology R&D function. The team plays a key role in ensuring that value is generated for the organisation through transacting on deals to support the Oncology R&D strategy. It sits within the External R&D and Innovation group, which is part of Oncology R&D Strategy, Business Development & Alliances.

As a member of a multinational, multifunctional team, your primary role will be to support Oncology R&D in the execution of agreements to support collaborative interactions with our key academic partners worldwide. You will also develop business cases and negotiate complex transactions, with assistance from other functions as required.  As a Director, Global Collaboration Agreements, you will be a key ambassador for AstraZeneca in its external interactions, building and maintaining relationships with current and potential future partners for Oncology R&D and ensuring that AstraZeneca is viewed as a partner of choice. 

What you'll do:

  • Execute various types of collaborative agreements with academic partners, taking the lead on contract negotiation including more complex transactions.
  • Work collaboratively with other AstraZeneca functions to ensure that contracts are compliant with AstraZeneca policies, while executing these in a timely manner.
  • Evaluate and advise internal Oncology R&D stakeholders on the most appropriate type of agreement to cover specific collaborative and partnering opportunities.  Build collaborative relationships with key internal stakeholders.
  • Initiate, lead and manage re-negotiations and terminations as necessary for academic alliances.
  • Manage relationships with potential partners in a timely and professional manner; ensuring that AstraZeneca remains competitive in discussions.
  • Maintain a strong and effective network with specific key academic institutions, such as those in the Partner of Choice Network, through engaging in regular interactions and building relationships with their contracts and tech transfer offices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of BS/BA Degree in a relevant scientific or legal field
  • 5+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, biotech industry with research contracts or technology transfer office
  • Strong understanding of key principles of contracts, intellectual property and value drivers relevant to academic collaboration agreements and related transactions.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to effectively understand and act on complex information under high time pressure situations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Good working knowledge of all relevant regulations, ensuring industry standards are applied.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS, PhD, MBA or JD degree

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $162,244.00 - $243,366.00 USD Annual l. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours. Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.  In addition, our positions offer a short-term incentive bonus opportunity; eligibility to participate in our equity-based long-term incentive program (salaried roles), to receive a retirement contribution (hourly roles), and commission payment eligibility (sales roles). Benefits offered included a qualified retirement program [401(k) plan]; paid vacation and holidays; paid leaves; and, health benefits including medical, prescription drug, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms and conditions of the applicable plans. Additional details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
