The Director of Finance in the Finance Business Partner team is a strategic advisor who is known for building trusted relationships across the organization. This leader challenges the status quo and drives meaningful improvements across finance teams and strategic initiatives by translating financial insights into actionable business recommendations. The Director manages core finance functions including controllership, revenue analysis, expense management, and financial reporting, while contributing to strategic decisions that shape business outcomes. They ensure accurate and timely execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting cycles, legal entity compliance, and external financial disclosures. As a key contributor to M&A integration efforts, the Director leads the financial integration of acquired entities while navigating various accounting frameworks including IFRS, US GAAP, and international standards. They deliver insightful analyses that support executive decision-making and inform policy development. The Director builds and develops a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. They establish strong cross-functional partnerships and communicate financial complexity in clear, business-focused terms that enable informed decision-making across the organization.

What you’ll do 

Leadership and engagement of peers and other finance team members in the performance of ongoing daily, monthly, quarterly and annual internal and external financial activities.

Management Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the team through month-end, ensuring completeness and accuracy of the P&L and balance sheet.

  • Guide the business in summarizing and highlighting risks and opportunities in the financial plans to help decision making.

  • Support and lead the team through the triage and budget processes for specific areas of accountability, including revenue recognition, capital policy, IFRS 16, stock-based and variable compensation, benefits, and balance sheet true-ups. 

  • Ensure the team’s comprehensive understanding of revenue, cost drivers and capital, influencing decision-making and budget commitments.

  • Provide leadership reports, timelines/schedules, and reconciliations for monthly and quarterly close.

  • Liaise with finance peers, including Finance Business Partners and Finance Assurance and Operations teams, to ensure results are within expectations and include all required entries.

  • Ensure all out-of-footprint entities are consolidated appropriately and acquisition accounting is completed appropriately.

  • Ensure all controls are executed appropriately, including journal entry approval and account reconciliation completion.

External Financial & Regulatory Reporting and Accounting Policy:

  • Support the Corporate team in segment reporting for external purposes, reviewing all supporting schedules for completeness and accuracy.

  • A key liaison with the tax and legal teams to meet the appropriate legal entities needs and aid in decisions and execute on legal entity structure changes or regulatory requirements within our global regions.

  • Lead the team through ad hoc analysis of accounting policy application, to help the business make decisions and drive results.

  • Support the TELUS Health Finance team by ensuring all accounting policies are executed appropriately and new policies are adapted.

  • Lead the legal entity reporting team and requirements from a tax and local accounting perspective.

  • Support all regulatory reporting requirements related to the TELUS Health legal entities

  • Regular balance sheet analysis and reporting

  • Responsible for controls compliance and SOX reporting requirements for TELUS Health.

Process Improvement & Systems:

  • A key leader in the processes that support our underlying finance systems - Workday and SAP - to ensure that hierarchies, cost centres and chart of accounts are controlled and meet the requirements of TELUS Corporate.

  • A critical resource in integrating acquisitions into TELUS Health finance systems and, ultimately, into TELUS Corporate systems

  • Responsible for standardization of processes related to revenue recognition, expense management, capital and consolidations, while maintaining the needs of the business at a level of materiality that is reasonable.

  • A decision maker in creating centres of excellence for the team and setting up the TELUS Health regional hubs for success, while maintaining the appropriate controls and governance
