The Director, Development works with the Sr. Director to secure major gifts for the School of Communication and School of Education and Human Development.

JOB FUNCTIONS                               

1. Identifies prospective donors at the major gift level and other funding sources, in conjunction with faculty and staff, and develops cultivation and solicitation plans, involving groups and volunteers, as appropriate.

2. Ensures regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, proper acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the progress of the departments.

3. Assists donors, prospects and other select individuals with appointments, scheduling, and other necessary facilitation through clinical encounters.

4. Maintains communications with colleagues in School’s departments, other schools, and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the university’s key fundraising goals and objectives.

5. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the Department’s needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments.

6. Documents all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in CRM (iBIS) and other appropriate donor files.

7. Works with the Sr. Director to solicit and manage the Dean’s Advisory Committees.

8. Assists Sr. Director by performing management duties as needed.  

9. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS                    

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

Experience:

Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.

             

Knowledge, Skills, and Attitudes:

• Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

• Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.

• Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships

• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
