Position Summary...

The Director, Communications Walmart Global Press Office serves as the company’s frontline with the media and a key driver of Walmart’s enterprise narrative. Reporting to the Senior Director of Media Relations, you will lead press office operations, manage reputational risk, and shape proactive strategies that position Walmart as a trusted global brand. As part of the Global Communications team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping conversations not only about the future of retail, but also on issues that the world is watching. This role calls for agility, quick thinking, and the ability to pivot seamlessly in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate is a proven expert in media relations with both proactive and reactive experience, an excellent spokesperson, and a strong people leader who can balance speed with strategy. They thrive in fast-paced, high-stakes environments and are highly collaborative, building trust with senior leaders, cross-functional partners, and journalists alike.

What you'll do...

Lead Press Office Operations
  • Serve as the company’s primary point of contact for incoming media inquiries—fielding calls, triaging requests, drafting and delivering statements, and ensuring timely, accurate, and consistent responses aligned with company priorities.
  • Proactively position Walmart’s perspectives with journalists and influencers, securing coverage that supports and protects the company’s reputation.

Build and Protect Enterprise Narrative
  • Oversee the development and dissemination of stories that reinforce a unified enterprise narrative and highlight Walmart’s role as a people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer.
  • Monitor reputational risk and lead response efforts in times of high visibility, managing holding statements, Q&As, and rapid-response materials.

Executive Counsel
  • Serve as a strategic counselor and partner to executive leadership, providing guidance on sensitive issues and preparing leaders for high-profile media engagements.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media training program for senior leaders across the company.

Team Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a high-performing team of communications professionals, fostering an environment of accountability, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Set clear priorities, KPIs, and success measures; evaluate performance and continuously improve outcomes.

Collaboration & Insights
  • Partner cross-functionally with Legal, Operations, Marketing, and Executive leadership to ensure responses are accurate, legally sound, and reputation-enhancing.
  • Leverage media monitoring, competitive analysis, and audience insights to anticipate trends, uncover opportunities, and strengthen Walmart’s communications strategy.

What you’ll bring:
  • Experience in tech and/or product communications, both in-house and at a big agency
  • Confident storyteller, creative thinker, and innovator, energized by shaping the technology narrative of a Fortune 1 enterprise
  • Strong relationships with national technology and business media, with the ability to define and protect stories through media relations

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
