Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Director, Business Services - Jupiter, FL.

As a key member of HBOI’s senior management team, the Business Services Director will provide strategic leadership and oversight of all financial, budgetary, and business operations. The position will ensure accuracy, compliance, and transparency in support of institutional goals.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • As a part of HBOI senior management, advises, assists, and communicates regularly with the HBOI Executive Director and senior management and keeps them fully informed of financial matters on a timely basis by providing accurate financial, budgetary, and management information. 

  • Assists and advises HBOI Principal Investigators/Project Managers (PI/PM) on accounting and budgetary matters as necessary. 

  • Supervises staff and functions of general accounting, purchasing, shipping/receiving, budget preparation and control, and financial and management reporting functions for HBOI to the University. 

  • Trains and supervises a staff of Grant Coordinators who work with PI/PM's and is responsible for the implementation of and oversight of FAU and HBOI procedures regarding grants and contracts, including pre-proposal processes, post-award monitoring, travel, and time & effort. 

  • With the HBOI Executive Director and senior management, prepares the annual budgets. Controls, monitors, and reports on the operational budget. 

  • Serves as the HBOI liaison with the Division of Research and other University departments on all financial matters. 

  • Serves as the chief Business Manager of HBOI. 

  • Serves as the HBOI liaison to the FAU Foundation and the HBOI Foundation regarding funding matters in relation to Specialty License Plates funding and other development-related funding.

  • Reviews and approves budget actions and changes including transfers and add-ons. 

  • Performs or directs studies designed to identify reductions in operating costs and/or increased financial/operating efficiencies to support proper management decisions. 

  • Coordinates Asset Inventory and related functions with FAU Property Management. 

  • In conjunction with the HBOI Associate Executive Directors and/or Division of Research Sponsored Programs, prepares and/or analyzes significant outside grants and contracts, including financial review by the HBOI Executive Director. 

  • Performs review and financial analysis (including cost/benefit) of major purchase contracts linking the underlying justification for such purchase and a comparison with other alternatives.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and six years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience required.

Valid Driver's License required.


Preferred Qualifications/Skills:

Annual budget formulation and monitoring experience.

Higher education or not-for-profit environment experience.

Pre- and post-awards of federal and state grants experience.

Management experience.

Accounting experience.

Salary:

$80,000 - $110,000 per year.
