Title:
DG BOSS: Marine Painter/Sandblaster (FN)
- Responsible for preparations, inspections and operations of air compressor, sandblasting and painting equipment for maintenance work projects.
- Performs loading of sandblasting grit into the sandblasting pot, properly installs and connects sandblasting hoses and nozzles. Accomplishes repairs as necessary to effectively bring the sandblasting equipment back to its optimum performance in surface preparation.
- Performs masking and blanking of critical surfaces of equipment for protection.
- Performs sandblasting operations on vessels or craft and industrial plant equipment under maintenance work cognizant to A-06 Port Operations and all related preservation work/activities, including but not limited to:
- a) Preservation of rusted/corroded/damaged or worn-out coatings of interior and exterior structures, machinery, cradles and various foundations of the vessel.
- b) Preparation of substrates (wood, fiberglass or GRP, aluminum, and various ferrous and non-ferrous made materials) using sandblasting machines, high pressure hydro-blasting machine or hand-powered tools, whichever is applicable and suited for the work.
- c) Mixing of epoxy and non-epoxy primer paints, epoxy topcoat paint and all preservative compound preparation or color mixing in accordance with U.S. Navy acceptable standards and applicable procedures.
- d) Application of preservatives on prepared surfaces or repair of damaged coatings following the existing or required paint coating scheme and schedules, i.e. marine primer to enamel, primer to non-slip coating compounds, anti-fouling or bituminous compounds, varnish, etc.
- e) Carries out proper maintenance, uses and operations of various painting tools and equipment to accomplish surface preparations and preservation.
- Maintains awareness to safety requirements and all work areas clean and in good housekeeping.
- Performs other duties as required to support contract requirements of A-06.
Basic Qualifications
- Familiar with US Navy standard/general requirements on preservation of ships in service
- Knowledge in different types/classes and uses of preservatives and painting or surface preparation equipment, application of various types of paints, abrasive sand, non-skids, thinners and solvents.
- Must speak, read, and understand English language, both orally and in writing.
- Must pass overseas medical screening and be in good health.

EDUCATION:
- High School graduate and vocational or apprenticeship course related to Painting Technology or Trade.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of three (3) year experience as Painter/Sandblaster in Naval Repair Facility or commercial shipyard.
