Who we are supporting
The NATO Communication and Information Agency (NCIA) is responsible for providing secure and effective communications and information technology (IT) services to NATO's member countries and its partners. The agency was established in 2012 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium.
The NCIA provides a wide range of services, including:
- Cyber Security: The NCIA provides advanced cybersecurity solutions to protect NATO's communication networks and information systems against cyber threats.
- Command and Control Systems: The NCIA develops and maintains the systems used by NATO's military commanders to plan and execute operations.
- Satellite Communications: The NCIA provides satellite communications services to enable secure and reliable communications between NATO forces.
- Electronic Warfare: The NCIA provides electronic warfare services to support NATO's mission to detect, deny, and defeat threats to its communication networks.
- Information Management: The NCIA manages NATO's information technology infrastructure, including its databases, applications, and servers.
Overall, the NCIA plays a critical role in ensuring the security and effectiveness of NATO's communication and information technology capabilities.
The program
Assistance and Advisory Service (AAS)
The NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCI Agency) is NATO’s principal C3 capability deliverer and CIS service provider. It provides, maintains and defends the NATO enterprise-wide information technology infrastructure to enable Allies to consult together under Article IV, and, when required, stand together in the face of attack under Article V.
To provide these critical services, in the modern evolving dynamic environment the NCI Agency needs to build and maintain high performance-engaged workforce. The NCI Agency workforce strategically consists of three major categorise's: NATO International Civilians (NIC)'s, Military (Mil), and Interim Workforce Consultants (IWC)'s. The IWCs are a critical part of the overall NCI Agency workforce and make up approximately 15 percent of the total workforce.

Role Duties and Responsibilities
- Design, engineer and integrate server, storage, hardware and software IT infrastructure solutions.
- Implementation or enhancement of DevOps and automation solutions on physical and virtual environments using various tools and scripts.
- Design, engineer and integrate on-premises Private Cloud and Public Cloud infrastructure solutions.
- Provide technical and engineering advice to building and facility management teams on requirements and the integration of IT infrastructure for building construction/renovation and migration projects.
- Design, engineer and integrate solutions to improve IT availability, resiliency and business continuity.
- Lead a small engineering integration team responsible for performing hardware, software releases and data and system migrations.
- Following and adapting established IT architecture and IT security guidance when designing, engineering and integrating IT solutions.
- Occasional travel to locations in Europe to perform his/her duties.
Essential Skills, Experience and Certifications
- Be a senior engineer or technical lead or with Five (5) years or more of proven experience in design, engineering and integration of large or complex IT infrastructure in a medium or large enterprise or systems integrator for businesses/organisations with 1000+ servers, or 10,000+ users
- Have Five (5) years or more leading engineering and integration teams responsible for performing hardware, software releases and data and system migrations.
- Have excellent experience in designing and implementing VMware cloud infrastructure including vSphere and vSAN.
- Have excellent experience implementing and working with a DevOps tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, Gitlab CI/CD
- Have experience in shell scripting languages such as Bash orpython
- Have excellent experience in designing and implementing resilient and highly available data storage technologies including iSCSI and FC SANs and backup and recovery solutions.
- Have good understanding of networking including LAN and WAN
- Have good experience in designing and implementation cyber security technologies including firewalls, VPN, proxies, Anti- malware and data loss protection solutions.
- Have excellent customer engagement and communication skills.
- Have good documentation skills.
- Have good language skills, both written and spoken, is essential. English and French are the two NATO languages and most of the work is conducted in the English language.
- Be self-motivated and able to work independently and in a team environment as required.
- Have a Car Driving license
Education
- Have a University degree in technical subject with a preference on Information Technology (IT), obtained from a nationally recognised/certified institution.
- Have achieved one (preferably 2) of the following professional certifications and held it for at least Three (3) years:
- vMWare VCP or better/equivalent
- Cisco CCNA or better/equivalent
- Red Hat RHCE or better/equivalent
